vRS Intake Manifold Flap wiring

Featured Replies

I dropped my car off for some work under it's extended warranty this morning, with a complaint of the usual knocking from the front end, along with the CEL being on.

I had Ross (Tech1e) read the fault codes when I went up to him for cruise control fitting, and he said the CEL was on due to a problem with the 'intake manifold flap' I believe.

I've just had a phonecall saying that new console bushes are needed, along with a new EGR valve and some turbo seals and pipes. All of that will be covered under warranty, but the parts aren't in stock so I'll have to go back there again soon for fitting.

However, I've been told the fault with the intake manifold flap is with the wiring to it, and as such isn't covered under the warranty. I've checked this in the warranty handbook, and it does explicitly state that wiring and looms are not covered under the extended warranty.

My question - does anybody have a picture or description of what this looks like and it's location, so I can determine if I could do it on my driveway? I've got no axle stands and only limited tools at home, as most of my stuff is at my parents. Also, what are the likely detrimental effects of this fault? Reduced power, poor MPG? Or is it just something that'll put the light on, but cause no real ill effects?

The final question - if I repair the wiring myself, will the fault codes need clearing, or will the light clear itself when it realises the fault has been rectified? If it's the latter, how long is this likely to take - immediately after fixing the fault, or a few days etc?

Thanks in advance for any help I get.

Cheers,

Tom
