Diesel Fuel Additives

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just seen in my handbook that you're not supposed to use fuel additives when filling up with diesel. Does anyone know why this is? I've had a look in my previous car's handbook (Golf GT TDI PD 130) and it says the same. It actually encourages you to use fuel additives if you own a petrol version car.

I've heard that diesel injector failure is fairly common in this engine and i was thinking of using Millers Diesel Sport 4 to keep the injectors clean and efficient.

I guess if the handbook says not to use any then i guess i shouldn't, right?

Also, should i steer clear of V-Power Diesel as it is supposed to contain additives also?

Maybe VAG want the injectors to fail so they can charge you a fortune in repair bills!

Thanks, Lee

Just use high quality diesel fuel ie Shell diesel fuel once in a while.

VAG cars use much finer fuel metering than many other cars ie the Piezo electric system Bosch introduced for them, same as an Epson printer and a LCD match uses to count time but being German it is well engineered etc. Occsaional good quality fuel, supermaket most the time seems to work for me and I have done 100K of miles in diesel VAG cars. As long as you are buying Northern European fuel. There is much more to worry about with DPFs, turbo, MAFs above worrying about injectors

Have been using Millers for about 150000 of the 362000kms thats on my remapped PD140 and it hasn't done it any harm, infact I'm fairly convinced its contributing to the impressive reliability that I'm having. I also think that if you double dose you can definitely feel improved throttle response and smoother running. No doubt there will be some who disagree with me but as you can see, I have put a lot of miles on my Octy so I'm fairly sure I know how its running by now.........good or bad.

Camskill.co.uk are very competative for Millers and Comma PD oil aswell.

run millers in the fabia 130PD for years and probably about 50k miles with no issues so far, but with the CR units from what I've read on here its not a good idea.

Thanks for your reply's guys.

As a matter of interest what fuel do you use it with? I was thinking of using Tesco diesel with Millers Diesel Sport 4 as that way i'd be getting loads of clubcard points and using a good quality additive to keep the injectors clean and lubricated.

I wouldn't use supermarket fuel without an additive though.

Thanks, Lee

Shell diesel, its all I use in both the fabia and Octavia. Though if you do a search its been covered a few times (the supermarket vs brand fuel that is)
