Getting a Felicia low

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

The Fabia is all tucked up over winter, sitting in the garage with the handbrake off, trickle charger on and avoiding road salt and grime... so, I've only gone and bought a Felicia!

She's a R reg GLXI in metallic green, no rust on exterior and a healthy 1.3MPi engine with 87,000 on the clock. I paid perhaps a little over the odds at £300 but she's a minter. I have fixed the sunroof leaks, given her a service and a clean, applied some stickers and hit the road... however, i'm not hitting the road hard enough...

I like my cars low, it's not to everyone's taste but it's what I like so the Felly will be getting the treatment... The question is... How come some on here are so low? I have found springs for a decent price but they only go down to -40mm, I was looking for more like -60/-80mm, I am sure a certain Mr Teflon may have answers but thought i'd stick it here... HOW ON EARTH do you get Felicias propperly low? prefrebly on a small budget!

Thanking you all in advance!

- Duggie.

Some of the (still not very expensive) spring sets available on eBay claim -60mm, but any lower than that and you're going to need to change the dampers or look at coilovers anyway. Unfortunately, being a car that's been out of production for 10 years and has nothing in common with anything else suspension-wise, neither of those options are readily available any more, especially on a budget. You'd probably be looking at getting stuff custom-made or importing from CZ - either way it'll almost certainly cost more than the car ;)

Cut the springs!

He he

On another thread Tom said that the fronts look like Mk1 Focus dampers will fit, so if you can sort out the top mounts that should give you some options?

(can't believe I've just aided and abetted excessive lowering!)

^^ ok, that is a fair option, go down argos and buy a £10 angle grinder and chop the springs up

second cheap option is to use the front springs from a favorit on the front, these are essentially the same as felicia springs but they are shorter, i have a brand spanking new pair of felicia rear lowering springs still in the box that you can have for free if you come and get them

there's something else i'm working on in the background which will work a treat but it will cost you a bit more, they are from a focus like darren says but i need to confirm 100% that they fit first.. more on this later

my advise is don't make it too low at the back as well

cut the springs or dependanty on how nifty you are with suspension (no offence but unlikely as you need to ask) look to rally design for threaded bodies and springs to make your own coilovers

Lower that far, and you will change the front camber and caster angles.

My old Felicia was lowered by the cut springs method, (done before i aquirred it) , i think it lost around 100mm when it was done, and the ride quality wasn't too bad, you had to avoid potholes and speed bumps though.

It's not gained as much camber as I expected, but those are stock tyres, which might hide it a bit.

Did the steering get heavier?

look to rally design for threaded bodies and springs to make your own coilovers

have a gander at this thread for inspiration then

Hey guys,

Thanks all for the imput. Teflon, I may take you up on that offer of the rear lowering springs, how much do they lower by? I have friends in Portsmouth so would be a good excuse to come down if I am honest. I'd like to think that I am quite nifty with odds and sods on a car but work is stopping play at the moment, I work for Skoda full time in Oxford so the time I have to play with cars is limited at the best of times! This is why i was looking for a simple solution, the car cannot be off of the road for long periods of time, It has to get me into work!!

Thanks again and I may drop you a PM when i have a free moment Tom.

feel free duggie. legend

edit: the number on the side of the box is FKSK017 and they are from fk automotive, i think that's a 40mm drop, but the back end of a felicia is pretty low to start with anyhow

Don't 6n polo springs fit?

oh that old chestnut... brilliant...

no they don't fit mate

sorry I'm new to skoda's I'm just going to chop mine any way.

Did you buy this from a guy called Colin? From round Sheffield way? I'm sure this is the one that had teddy bear rims on?
