Hello all

I noticed in my local Asda recently that they are selling 4L bottles of Carlube Triple R Fully Synth 5W40 for £11! I read the back and noticed that it does not spec the VW requirements but does say that it is suitable for VW/Audi etc. So I thought I would email them to find out what the Bobby is...got this reply...

Our Triple R 5w40 4L infact is superior to that of VW 502.00/505.00. It now meets VW 502.00/VW 505.00/ VW 505.01. So if it the VW specification you are after, this oil will be suitable for you.

There oil is made by SHELL so it can't be that bad!!

Drop it once a year/6 months and youre laughing. Now to stock up. Got some Mobil 1 0w40 left though.

yes mate trade and sorry was on the phone does not worry me doing a oil change every 6 months at that price lol

Checked out local asda & they have 5w30 and 5w40 fully. Im currently using 0w40 Mobil 1...worth changing, and what grade to?

No fully 5W40 left in Walsgrave Coventry now!!! I have just been to check...can't believe missed out on that! oh well

Luckily a stack left here, looks like no-one knows.

May be worth checking with other stores?

wilkinsons usually have it for about £16 if that helps anyone else

Hmm 5w40 or 5w30

won't really matter since both should be ok and up to spec, some people say the 40 will be a bit better and less oil use, the 30 better for cold starts.

personally it shouldn't matter if you're gonna change it annually or at 10k, long life 5w30 is only necessary for extended 2yr/20k servicing imo

i'd personally never leave oil in more than 1yr/10k anyway

Yeah once a year at the mo with Mobil 1 fully synthetic 0w40 so every 6-8k.

None in my local Asda, just own brand stuff :no: will try a bigger branch tomorrow :yes:

Theres usually a 'specials' aisle with varied stuff on in our Asda, not sure if yours is the same, but away from the usual oil stand.
