Archos 70

Featured Replies

Morning folks :)

I was looking at buying a kindle for my ebooks but a friend suggested getting a Archos 70 instead as they do a lot more...does anyone know anything about them? Are they worth getting? Was looking at maybe buying one in the states when i head over next week.

Cheers for any info

There's quite a bit of equipment that will do the job of an ebook but do they use e-ink?

I was in Waterstones recently having a look at what they'd got to offer and at first look, there was a colour machine that appeared to offer more for less but it's only after reading up on the spec that I realised it displayed the books but wasn't actually using a 'proper' reader screen. ie the battery life would have been through the roof compared to the kindle.

Also check out what you want to put on the machine as some formats are mutually incompatible.

bumpty bump...nobody any more info on this ?

The Archos70 is a tablet device that does multiple things, if youre going to use it for more than just a e-reader then its not a bad item.

However it does use Android OS, so you can get the free Kindle app for it, again I would check the reviews to see how it is when trying to read in strong sunlight as I suspect it will be taken in holiday to listen to music & do some reading.

I would research on the net before buying any tablet.

If youre just looking at e readers, we have the Sony e- reader, which is a well built piece of equipment, will do several formats to read, & is outstanding when trying to read in bright sunlight ( as we found on holiday last year).

The alternative is the Kindle - cant comment on that as havent used one or tried in strong sunlight.

Another vote for the Sony, as I have one. I've peered over a few folk's shoulders on the tube, and the Kindle display looks pretty much the same. E-ink is the best for book reading.

Thanks for the info chaps
