Bought these 16" Spiders Opinions Please

Featured Replies

I bought these of SCN & have just taken delivery & fitted them. The Seller stated that "I was just being very honest on the listing, the kerbing is not very noticable at all (it is right on the edge, just where the tyre mounts). It is more of a scrape than a kerb. I was just going to try and colour it in somehow and you wouldn't be able to see it. It certainally doesn't need a repair. Someone who is handy with a spray gun would make them look perfect"

I am assuming that this is the alloy he is referring to

Just want some feedback on the description against what i have

Secondly & more worryingly is this:

The seller was unaware of this but my concern is the alloy actually legal & either way is this repairable?

Also does the tyre need replaced?

Is the split deep? If its only a MM or so then i`d not worry. As for the wheel, i`m sure it can be repaired. I`v just bought a set from SCN too, however, i`m collecting them first so will be checking them very carefully.

Matt

While damaged i wouldn't say the rim is illegal and it does only look like surface damage (the wheel isn't buckled or bent it just seems to be chipped)

In fact one of my rims at the mooment has the same kind of damage but it about an inch across!! stupid masive kerbs in a new build estate!

with regards to the tyre IMO that's barely a scratch rather than a split but if you're worried have a couple of tyre places look at it (but be aware they are more likely to tyre to sell you a replacement than admit it's fine!)

In fact I've done 2 track days on a tyres withe a gauge far worse than that and had no issues whatsoever

Personally I see a "scrape" as just paint damage, they are definitely both a curb in my eyes.

They can both be repaired or just tided up a little with a file, as for the tyre providing the cut has not gone down to any of the cords then it will be legal - BUT keep an eye on it for future sidewall bulges.

If you have paid top money for them I would be asking for a refund, if they were a bargain then maybe not.

tbh mate i would call that scuff in the first picture barely noticeable. maybe not when ur as close as that but i have a bigger one than that on 2 of my alloys and when ur stood anymore than about a foot away from them u cant see it

Look nice in that finish on an SE B)

(fit some wheelnut covers though :))

Bit difficult to see with a photo. I'm more worried about the sidewall. When pressure is applied to the area, does the split/mark get any worse. My concern would be whether it's weakened the area sufficiently to potentially make a sidewall bulge or even a blowout more likely. Not trying to scaremonger, just thinking about potential issues.

The nick on the wheel isn't an issue and could be filled and filed down.

What did you pay for the set?

OK, Just back from local Seat Dealer getting a LCR front splitter & asked them to look at the wheels. They said damage was slight & nothing to worry about, likewise with the tyre.

Paid £450 delivered with tyres on

Really don't want to do a refurb at 50+ a time

Left wheel nut covers off until i spoke to the dealer

they look a nice colour emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Fair enough. Makes sense to get them checked over.

Depending on tyre type and tread that sounds good

Ive just bought a set of 17" spiders of the Seat Cupra forum. They have similar if not worse kerbing than yours, yet are easily repairable and I'm paying £200 to get to show condition.

lol

My 16" spiders were recently refurbed to an OEM finish, but after seeing the pics, I'm starting to wish that I'd gone a shade darker....

Wait until i get a chance to give them a wash - they might not be quite as dark as they seem :smirk:
