Lowering Advice needed

Featured Replies

I am looking to improve the handling of my vRS by ordering a set of Eibach springs (lowers ride hieght approx 25mm). However, I would also like a new set of wheels but am currently deliberating whether to stick with 16" or move up a size to 17" using lower profile tyres.

My concern is that using a 17" wheel with lowered suspension will completely ruin the ride and also compromise the handling. Ideally I would like to get some matched dampers for the lowering springs but I cannot justify the cost.

Does anybody have experience of a Fabia vRS running eibach lowering springs with the original dampers and if so what wheel size are you using. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts and views. Cheers

You might have seen it, but the springs are being discussed here

Also, the ride will be harder with springs and bigger wheels, but thats just the way it is. Try and be careful to get light wheels for the best results.

A stock Fabia vRS will likely be more compliant than one with any upgrades, but there are members here who have 17's and / or upgraded suspension and I havent seen too many complaints. The drawback of better handling is usually a harder ride.

If you arent too bothered about aesthetics, have you thought of uprating the shock absorbers only?

I tried Eibachs with standard dampers but they were too bouncy. Adjustable Konis Sports tamed that nicely.

How are you getting on with the noises Phil? Sorry I didnt reply to your last email, my bad.

My opinion is that i didnt like the way the car handled on 17"s - ive gone back to standard wheels now as i think the handling is more balanced this way... i also have eibach springs n shocks.:)

Thanks for asking Ross. The clonking at the front's still there and since the Konis were fitted I now have clunks from the rear too! So far the dealer's fitted the modified strut top mounts you recommended and also tried new 'dog bone' ARB/strut links, nether of which cured it. Just this week they got the man from Skoda technincal to look at it, but - surprise, surprise - he was so upset by the suspension mods that he provided no help at all.

I'm thinking it's either an ARB mount or perhaps not suspension at all - engine or gearbox mount maybe? Maybe next time work takes me near MK, I could make a booking?

Thanks for your interest though - appreciated.
