Coolant Temperature Sensor

Featured Replies

I had a Coolant Temperature Sensor failure which caused the engine light to come on, and the car to idle at 2000 rpm. It was also running very erratically failing to start, cutting out after ignition etc.

I took it into my local dealer and they hooked it up to their computer and resolved the problem straight away, replacing the sensor, plug and coolant. the bill was for

Glad they fixed the problem but that is poor charging you an hours labour. I know they have to allow the time for the car to be driven in/out of the workshop, doing the paperwork etc but it should have only been 1/2 hours labour tops.

Ah well, at least they saved me a fiver by washing the car.

:rubchin: You're not the only person to be getting this happening.

Suppose

Well, they also attached the diagnostic reports from the computer to the back of the invoice. At 9.51am, it showed a fault in the coolant system. At 9.59am it showed no faults, so it took them all of 8 minutes to replace the faulty parts! Ker Ching! :thumbdwn:

I could give you a diag report that shows 9.51 Fault and 9.52 no fault and not change anything.

Coolant temp sensor fault even if permanent can be cleared staright away and wont return until the ignition has been switched off and back on again, and even might not come back until its been through a drive cycle.

Truth be known it takes about 10 mins for VAS 5051 to actually print anything due to it running on Windows 95 and comunicating to the printer via an infared port. Anyone who has used it will know what i mean..lol

How much are these sensors to buy? I would be fitting one myself i reckon... I am sure i saw the green ones iirc for about $6 in US!

Does this mean that the parts didn't need replacing? the engine light was on for a couple of weeks, then turned itself off. Must say the cra is running a lot better since I had this repair done....

No im sure the parts did need replacing, its a common fault.

What im saying is the time on the printout means nothing.
