New Bluetooth / RSAP Module

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 vRS with GSMIII phone prep that only does RSAP, I'm looking to fit the latest model RSAP / UHV module, from what research I have done the 5N0035730D unit is the latest from VW and supercedes 3C8035730A the only thing I cannot find the answer to is whether you need the Bluetooth plate Antennea ( 8P0 035 503 E) as well, can anyone who has fitted the 3C8 Unit confirm if it is required and whether it comes with the module when you have bought the module only.

It is ridiculous that virtually no phones support RSAP, including all but one Android phone, all the Iphones and none of the new crop of Windows phones so I'm going to have to change the module to get a decent replacement phone

Yes you need the antenna, we can supply/fit if you require one.

Hi Ben, can you PM me a price, would fitting the new module be a straight exchange as its already coded for the handsfree?

You do not need the antenna - it is built into the 5N0 module

Excellent, thanks for the info, I've ordered one and it does not come with an antenna....that's why then!

Are you sure that it is RSAP only. Picked up my new Fabia VRS ( week 1 2011 build) and was told by the dealer that it was compatable with very few phones - I took this to mean that it was a RSAP only model - However after 30 mins outside the pub it had succesfully paired with every phone availiable. On the stregth of that I parked about 12" from carphone warehouse and a nice man paired his HTC desire ( defo not RSAP) with the car. 10 mins later new phone bought :)

Moral of the story - don't believe the dealer ( Skoda themselves are not the greatest either - they had no idea what A2DP was - after 10 mins on the phone we worked out that Bluetooth media streaming was supported !)

P>S> IMHO RSAP is a waste of space - it hijacks your SIM so if you use a live sat nav or live data for your sat nav on your phone ( traffic warnings etc) you are stuffed.

IMHO RSAP is a waste of space -

Not if you live in the sticks like us, the reception from the GSM antenna is a big improvement over the one in the phone. It can make a difference between signal and no signal.

RSAP reception / transmission quality is 100% better than the GSM units, and even better when you are using it for business as it is so clear people think that you are on a landline, non of the annoying echoes that Bluetooth / GSM is usually prone to

Agreed, my RSAP kit when paired with my HTC WM 6.5 phone at home gets reception whereas the handset on its own get no signal at all. Before my landline was installed, I had to resort to sitting in my car to make phone calls. With RSAP your car becomes the phone handset, bluetooth is only used to read the sim card and contacts.

RSAP is leap years ahead in technology, about the only phones that dont work with it now are oddly enough the Iphone and older Andriod based handsets. Nokia, Blackberry and other manufacturers no problem, blame Apple for being in dispute with Nokia for not supporting or being provided with the license to use the technology. WM7 has currently has a software bug in the bluetooth stack that means WM7 phones currently dont work, but MS are working on the problem.

Totally agree with you regarding the RSAP system being leapyears ahead in terms of operational connectivity, however my research has yeilded a dire lack of phones ( old and new ) able to connect to RSAP, only one of the Android devices is compatible, the Samsung Galaxy S, none of the latest HTC's be it desire, desire HD or Z or even any of the new Nokias ( RSAP is a Nokia developed system originally) and none of the WP7 devices as you quite rightly state, which means that I am stuck with my trusty HD2......even upgrading the ROM on this is not possible as the RSAP Support is lost on all but WM6.5.....if Microsoft get their act together and provide support I may go that way.....given all the third party developments on Porting various OS to phones I am amazed that this seems to have been all but ignored......someone could make some serious money from an app supporting RSAP

See My link for what i've been up to with my Superb's Bluetooth...

Thanks for the link, the 5NO unit that i reefer to is the latest unit which has a suffix D and actually supersedes the 3C8 unit, i checked this with vw, i think the only difference is that it has the blue tooth antenna built into out, i don't think that there is any additional built in functionality i bought mine off ebay and it also came from portugal so it must be a bit like the columbus sat navs from lithuania with a local source....just to make you feel very smug about paying a mere £130 ish for it, when i spoke to my local vw dealer to check the part number was the latest one an did actually supersede the 3c8 unit i salted for a price on it....£695 + vat

The 5N0 Unit was fitted to the Mk2 Superb, from 2008-10 it was then changed for the 2011 model year, to the 3C8 unit.

The 5N0 has ONLY rSAP functionality

However, the 3C8 unit, has rSAP, HFP and Audio Streaming, so i would presume, this is the newer unit.

I was also quoted in excess of £800 from a dealer for this part. - there are many units for sale from international sellers on eBay.

Al.

ps. Why do you not need an Aerial on the 5N0 Unit? It's rSAP, so to get better signal, uses the Shark fin on the roof... Surely that's why it's got a socket for an aerial, and something plugged into it on a Factory fit unit?

... the 3C8 however, if using Hands Free Protocol, should not need the Aerial.

The latest 5NO unit is suffixed D the one you refer to is suffixed A, the RSAP only one is the one that is suffixed C, the 3C8 and new 5NO units appear to differ only in that the bluetooth antenna is built into the module and not a small plug in plate, both units use the shark fin ariel on the roof when in RSAP Mode, hence the better reception and transmission quality and both units do RSAP and UHV /HFP and audio streaming

The little plug in bluetooth ariel is just to improve the module to phone signal quality

You are correct, my original unit was a "C"

so the New 5N0 "D" has a plug-in BT Aerial? because the 3C8 certainly does not. - is that correct?

Right, got the new unit fitted, and paired the RSAP enabled HD2, functions this now adds to the original RSAP C device is audio streaming device in the MFA Menu, Read aloud function in the MFA, new bluetooth and 'Premium' logo's on the MFA

The Columbus has new logo's against the contacts denoting business, personal etc and also a new softkey for SMS, this now allows reading AND writing of SMS on the Columbus screen with the C unit you could only read the SMS on the MFA and the RSAP now loads the PHONE address book, not just the SIM address book that it did previously on the C device,

And no external Bluetooth antenna required

I then paired a spare phone I had knocking around, a Sony Ericsson C902 it paired perfectly, loaded the phones address book and does all the usual functions available on bluetooth HFP along with A2DP audio streaming all in all a very worthy upgrade, from what I can see it is identical to the 3C8 Unit, just with a new part Number!!

  • Author

Also found that the Columbus now displays all received and sent messages with the option to reply directly via the Columbus screen and the facility to call back, forward, copy , save etc from the screen of the columbus....in short it appears that the revision D unit addresses pretty much all of the missing functionality from the revision C RSAP only unit

i've found these on ebay that are the 5N0035730D and states that this supersedes the 3C8035730A which i was originally looking for to replace whatever is in my octavia that doesn't let me use my iphone. my question is why is the 5N0035730D cheaper than all the 3C803573A's and will it work with my iphone/belero. Really confused with all these!

That is exactly the unit I have just bought and fitted, if you look at his feedback I am dsrr on ebay

Yes it will work with ANY Bluetooth enabled mobile, including the very lame BT stack that apple have lumbered Iphone 4 with, according to my local vw parts dept the 5NO Rev D is just a part number revision to the 3C8 A Units to fit in with the part numbering on the Golf 6, the 3C8A is actually from the Passat CC apparently, either way they are supposed to be the same and I personally can confirm that ALL the functions work, I can't think of anything missing, plus the voice dialling is greatly improved.

If you can wait until over the weekend my daughter has an Iphone 4 so I'll try it with it to make 100% sure it works on the BT......RSAP on this new 5NO unit is even better! .....sell the Iphone and get an HD2!! :giggle:

BTW You will more than likely have a 5NO Rev C in your car at the moment which ONLY does rudimentary RSAP

Great, I will wait to make sure the iPhone 4 works but then I will get one ordered. Thanks for the reply.

Hi, I have just replaced my old 5N0 035 730 B module with this one 5N0 035 730 D. The old one was rSAP only and the new module allows me now to connect iPhone4 and my nokia, not at the same time though. So, 5N0 "D" model supports both rSAP and iPhone. It works very well and I have audio streaming as well. I only had to swap the modules and replace wiring because of audio streaming, nothing else.

The only problem I have is the fault code, I did not write it down, the service man explained that he could not find proper coding for my Superb II, 2010 model. He left setting like my car has the telephone cradle, but in fact it does not. Since system cannot find the cradle it give a fault. I have RNS 510, white Maxidot, MDI, aux, TV tuner. Does any one know what are the proper setting for 5N0 035 730 D on VAG COM?

Strange, i have changed my "C" module in my 2010 Superb, for the 3C8 Module (as from earlier in this post, Believed to be a "D" with a different name)

It gave me NO coding or faults - just plugged in, and worked perfectly...

Al.

The 3C8 module has been superceded by 5N0 035 730 D, I guess the good prices on the 3C8 modules are because its now obsolete.

Maybe so, but the 3C8 Does what i want (Music Streaming, HFP and rSAP if needed) and requires no coding in a 2010 Superb...

What does the "D" do that the 3C8 does not?

Can some one share the proper coding setting?
