VAG Code 01435 G201

Couple of weeks back when we had all that awful snow and ice my ESP (yellow light with car skidding) light came on and has been on ever since. Should add that the ESP switch that turns this on and off isn't illuminated or at least doesn't appear to be.

My initial thoughts after reading various topics in this forum was that I could have a dirty or knackered wheel sensor, especially given the vast amount of salt and grit that had been put down to cope with the conditions.

I decided to invest £40, and purchased a VAG 405 reader, so that I could try and diagnose the fault. Well I plugged it in this morning and got the following information:

01435 -108 CAN BUS 01/01

Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)

Sporadic

012 - Electrical Fault Circuit

ECU Information

VAG No: 1K0907379AC

Component: ESP FRON

0101

Coding: 0006786

IMP: 0790 WSC: 073430

I've spent a few hours trawling the net and obviously always end up back at the ABS Pump sensor issue and the fact this is going to cost a shed load of dosh.

I'm not terribly mechanically mided - can someone advise me where I can locate the ABS module so I can determine the model that is fitted to my car?

Does anyone know what the -108 after the 01435 means in the above information?

Also what is the 0101 after the ESP FRON?

Any help will be much appreciated.

You have the part number for the ECU there.

But yes you need a new ABS module unless you can get hold of a repair kit and find someone to fit it for you,

If you have a good dealer service history take it to a dealer, you will find Skoda can offer out of warranty goodwill if they send a diag report to Skoda via DISS.

You should erase the fault, could just be a Sporadic fault.

If something is wrong it will show up again

It will come up again, very common fault and a well known issue

It 's got a full Skoda service history so guess I'll have to try the goodwill route; however I don't hold out much hope.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah I did erase the fault as you suggested and unfortunately it came straight back.

I work as a tech at a Skoda dealer, we now do the required paperwork on all of these brake faults and to be honest Skoda re quite generous especially if you have a FSH.

But it does require the dealer doing the correct paperwork, if they send off a half completed claim with no diagnostic report or no DISS then it gets rejected.

I'll have a chat with the Skoda dealership in Swansea and see what they say. Thanks for that info.

I too had the ESP fault earlier this year and took it to Sinclair Swansea to confirm the diagnosis. Luckily I was covered by the used car warranty and the unit was replaced without a problem but they were thorough and very helpful and rang Skoda on my behalf to confirm the warranty covered it. They also put all the paperwork together when the warranty company sent a rep to inspect the vehicle and my service history before agreeing to the replacement unit being fitted. My experiences of them are all good and I'm sure the FSH will be in your favour. Good luck.

Pen y bont, can you tell me how you got on at sinclairs as i now have the problem with the esp. Any ideas on how to get them to maybe offer a goodwill gesture

Hi,

I did try to get Sinclair in Swansea to offer a goodwill gesture but all attempts fell on deaf ears. I didn't take it any further up the chain as I was fast losing my patience. They were in total denial that this was a common fault. I had the module removed by a mobile mechanic and I sent it recorded delivery to a company (ECU Testing) up in Nottingham to have the unit overhauled. The overhaul cost £450 plus mobile mechanic to remove and refit the module. The overhauled module came with a 2 year warranty. Skoda wanted £1500 for a new module plus fitting and would only guarantee the part for 12 months. So a no brainer as far as I was concerned. Given the fantastic customer care offered I am no longer a Skoda owner nor will I ever own a vehicle made by the VAG Group.

Regards

Mark

Fingers crossed, the car is off to sinclairs on monday morning.

Skoda are well aware of the problem and the repair kit sorts it without replacing the control unit.

Huge big thumbs up to Sinclair Skoda in Swansea. Replace the brake senor today,no cost for the repair kit and only had to pay half of labour costs. All in only paid 106 pounds and the y even cleaned the whole car inside and out.
