What hydraulic hand brake for Favorit?

Featured Replies

Hi folks... I will take an hydraulic hand brake for my favorit, I see a lot of model and I am confused, what I have to choose?

(Brake system: front I will mount the kermit's system, at the rear I have to mount brake disc of a Golf vr6, and for the front/rear pump I have to take one from a ABS Felicia)

Here's a link where I will take one, if you have other please fell free to post. Cheers Act

Noone?

hi act a fool, the abs master cylinder (pump?) wont fit on a non-abs model, the orientation of the bolts is not the same.. i've been doing some work on this and it seems a master cylinder from a vw sharan is a direct swap for the original felicia one but is a bigger size

on the back if you use vr6 brakes, you can use a brake disc from a mk2 golf gti which is the same size but has 4 bolt fitment instead..

Thank you TeflonTom... and what about hidraulic hand brake, what I have to choose? cheers

hydraulic hand brake? what's wrong with using cables instead?

^ darren, all vw rear calipers have 38mm pistons, felicia rear wheel cylinders are 19mm, effectively this is the same thing as a 38mm sliding piston because the rear wheel cylinder pushes out both sides at the same time so it doubles the effective area of the cylinder

Not sure I get you there Tom - if they're 38mm diameter then the area is more than doubled, surely?

What I was referring to though was the common practice of feeding a pair of rear cylinders from a single outlet from the master cylinder when they were originally fed by two outlets - this changes the brake balance but makes for an easier hydraulic handbrake installation...

I think that Hidraulic is more powerful and more accurate in blocking the rear wheels... then I can put the hand brake in vertical and near the shift...

Yeah, I've found the Fel handbrake is OK on gravel both for handbrake turns and for balancing the car, but on tarmac with sticky tyres it's not got enough power... If I could get a Grp A one for my car I'd fit it.

Where I can found a Grp A hand brake? THank you...

Depends how you are connecting your rear calipers. If you are sticking with the standard 2-line system, then you would want to go for one of the two-way ones, like this:

Then you can just plumb it in and use it without having to worry about master cylinder ratios because of changes in the number of pistons you are driving.

I will use only one line system for the front and for the rear...

Make sure you tell your insurer then!

When looking at parking brake systems for the trike (oh how trike rules are soooooooooo clear  ) I did find that the parking brake (handbrake if you will) has to be on a mechanical system separate to the hydraulic system used on the footbrake. (In the trike's case it's a bar through the front wheel, or chained to a lamp-post.)

If the system is not separate, then it should not pass it's UK MOT.

(No I have no idea how it works on a Mercedes either, my mate won't let me drive hers again for some reason.)

This information is from about 18 months ago, so may have changed. Still never found what the trike is supposed to have as sometimes it's a bike and sometimes it's a car, depending on what law you read. (We err'd on the side of caution)

It's still the case that the parking brake has to be mechanical (not sure how some new cars get round that), certainly I wouldn't replace the cable brake in a rally car for example as not only is it tested on the MOT it's also tested by scrutineers before events, but an additional hydraulic (or hyd+cable) handbrake is massively better in terms of power and control. Mine wasn't homologated as such, so I can't use one anyway, alas.

Nice! Might be a little difficult to apply on the move, but it'll certainly stop you.

I will use the car only for track day... so I have no problem...

However here in Italy, We can not touch anything in our cars, even the badge, nothing........ but the police sometimes say nothing, for the mot too... but sometimes... is a risk...
