Yeti park assist / parking sensors query

Featured Replies

Hi all,

According to my local Skoda dealer, the functionality of the current version of the park assist that are fitted as an option on the Skoda Yeti, can only assist for reversing into a car parking spot between two vehicles (i.e. parked in front / rear of one another). What the current version of the park assist cannot do is assist into getting out (driving out) of a tight parking spot, of the same width, that it helped the driver getting in. Apparently Skoda is working on implementing this in the future; hopefully this will be a software / firmware update or patch that “could†be installed by a dealer during a service at a cost.

Also, since the park assist equipment relies on a number of parameters like the reading of various distances and on the dependency of other devices like the parking sensors in the front and rear of the vehicle and also on the sensors in the wheel arches, my question here is related to the use of the parking sensors to operate independently of the park assist, so as to be able to use the parking sensor in the front and rear of the vehicle, to get out of a tight parking space, while the park assist is switched off.

Questions:

  • Can a Skoda Yeti fitted with park assist, be set to have its park assist switched off, and its front /rear parking sensors switched on at the same time when trying to drive out of a tight parking spot, when parked between two vehicle (in a parking spot that the park assist, assisted in the first place)?
  • If so, how can one activate the front and rear parking sensors while the park assist is switched off / deactivated? Are there any buttons to press to enable this feature?
  • This related question may sound silly, but, if the above feature is automatic, then this could prove very annoying when “stuck†into traffic jams and when moving mostly in first or second gear during heavy traffic as the front parking sensors will be always activating and beeping, while idle or moving slowly in heavy traffic, unless one uses neutral gear to deactivate the parking sensors, is that correct?

Does anyone know if it is possible to achieve this, or is this not possible to do so?

Cant really answer all your questions but regarding front parking sensors. My current car Vauxhall Insignia front sensors can be turned off.

Previous car Citroen C4 Picasso front sensors stayed on, didn't find it a problem as you would have to be close to the car in front to activate the bleepers.

Park assist is by default turned off (you need to activate it by pressing the button each time you want to use it) likewise the front and rear sensors are always active (when the appropriate gear is selected) this can be overridden and they can be turned off (by pressing another button).

As for the front sensors constantly picking up the vehicle in front you have to be pretty close to the vehicle (less than a meter IIRC) before they go off, so that should never be an issue in traffic, most advanced driving instructors will tell you that you should ALWAYS leave enough of a gap to be able to see the vehicle in front's tyres - where they meet the road (so if they break down etc you are far enough behind them to be able to 'overtake' them).

Thank you very much for these answers. As long as the parking sensors are always active, even though the park assist is switched off, this is all that I need.

Please note that examples I gave were for practical reasons to explain my needs, and do not reflect my driving style.

One more question:

When you say that park assist is always turned off, are you implying that this is the case, every time you switch the ignition on (even if in the previous trip, before switching the engine off and removing the ignition key, the park assist had been used and activated)?

As stated above, the Park Assist is Always off.

Unless you turn it on. Switching off the ignition cancels operation.

The reverse sensors are on all the time when in reverse, but to get the front ones to 'turn on' you need to push the other parking sensor switch.

For example, if I drive up close to my wall and put the nose of the car to the wall, I will hit the wall without the sensors going off. I have to press the sensor button first. Otherwise it would be going off all the time when somebody walked past the front of your car, say if you were at a pedestrian crossing.

The front ones come on, in that when you select reverse the graphic comes up on screen.

Pressing the sensor button will force the sensors to come on and the graphic to come on.

So, when the graphic is on screen, all sensors are on, otherwise they are not on.

Thank you very much for this answer.

I shall enquire with the dealer if the OPS (optical parking system) button will be present on the Yeti that I ordered.

If you ordered Park Assist or just ordered the front sensors you will in both instances get a button near the traction control button to activate the front sensors when you are in a forward gear. Also once you select reverse both front and rear sensors go active and even if you then select a forward gear again the front ones stay active for a while without having to press this button.
