Skoda Favorit SILVERLINE. Budget Retro

Featured Replies

I've been looking for a Skoda Favorit for quite a while, and just happened to have a quick glance on 1 of the 'other' Skoda Forum, and spotted a for sale ad that had just been posted for a Favorit that had been owned by an old chap since 2004, but at 88 yrs of age, he had decided to give up driving.

The ad read as follows

This is my Dad's Favorit which has been in our family since 2004, at 88 he's decided to hang up his driving gloves for good. It's done 75,000 and still runs like a dream, starts instantly in the coldest weather. Very little rust to rear wheel arches, despite being kept outdoors. It's a bit grubby but would clean up. Tax runs out at the end of this month, not sure about the MOT but assume it runs out too.

Knowing my Dad, the tank is probably nearly full as he likes to keep it topped up.

I think I have a tin of the correct paint as I replaced the tailgate when we bought it (original was a rotted through at the bottom of the screen)

Take it away for £100

(Car is in Wiltshire just South of M4)

After a few PM's etc, I found out that the Favorit was actually taxed until the end of Feb, and had MoT until end of October, and also had 3/4 tank of petrol. RESULT.

A couple more PM's later, and arrangements had been made to collect the car today, so at 5.20am this morning, I left Gainsborough with my brother Wayne, in my trusty Xsara, for the 217 mile journey down to Wiltshire to collect the car.

After a couple of stops to stretch legs etc, we arrived at the sellers house at 9.15am, to be greeted by a rather sorry looking Skoda Favorit. A quick look around the car, exchange of some pieces of paper, and we were on the way home.

10 minutes into the journey, we stopped in a little layby, where I took a few pics of the car, so here it is, in all it's crusty glory.

Current plans are a clean up, and then, eventually, something along the lines of this

I'm planning on doing everything on the tightest budget possible (under £500 if possible). So what do you guys think???

The Favvy looks quite good Kenton, Lots of memories of mine, Mite have to look round for another project for when i finish the teardrop build

Its not a bad car for the money mate, what can you buy for that sort of cash nowadays??

Going to give it a good check over and see what needs doing, but it seems ok on first impressions.

Looks very nice. Silverline's were limited editions I think from memory. I still have great memories of my Favorit. :)

It's got the original "silverline" alloys too :) a good buy.

I've hopefully found a Mk1 front grille, and a totally standard front bumper, with no fogs or headlamp washers.

Currently on the lookout for a set of cheap alloys, and a set of lowering springs.

Gave my Favorit a good scrub today, it's first 'proper' wash since 2004.

Rather pleased with the outcome, but there are a couple of places that need another scrub. Next on the agenda is a good vac on the inside.

Picked up a set of wheels, which I found advertised on the Edition 38 forum, were reasonably priced and fairly local, so I made arrangements to collect them on the way home from last weekends Riponian Stages Rally in North Yorkshire.

So once i've refurbed them and had tyres fitted, they will be on the Favorit

They look like they have come off a dead L&K Felly

I sold a set like that last year. They were BBS alloys.

Trial fitted the new wheels today to make sure they fit before i start on the refurb.

I'm undecided on what colour to go for with the centres though. Any ideas??
