Glove box opener broken

Featured Replies

Hi,

My glove box opener is broken, and i would like to open the glove box - first - and then repair it.

I went to the the workshop, and they told me:

a) they don't sell the opener separatly

B) they have to substitute the whole mechanism of glove box (+€160 just the box) - that i think it's a bit expensive for a glove box mechanism

I know i have to repair it some day, but more important to me now, is to open it.

So, can someone please give me some advice and clues, if it is possible to open it and if so can i do it myself or do i have to take it to the workshop?

So far, searching the forum i got this pic:

Not sure what to do after this :/

Thanks in advance,

That pic is part of my thread:

...which includes removing the entire glove compartment from the dash. Unfortunately, this requires you to be able to remove the three screws inside the glove compartment!

What I would say is that taking off the side panel may allow you to poke something in to push open the catch holding the glove compartment closed, in which case you should be able to take things from there!

HTH

is it a case of it feels like it should, but won't open from the catch?

Mine is like this - no-one but me can open it! Been like this since I took the whole thing out for some unknown reason.

The trick is to put pressure on the lid in the opposite direction of pull on the lever. Can easily be done with one hand, fingers on lid pushing left, one finger lifting catch.

If that makes any sense at all? :smirk:

Edit: Wooo! 100th post!!

Yup, loosen, wiggle and gentle lever at top (credit card) to open. Once it's open you might find (as I did) that just sanding a tiny bit off the latch allowed it to open without trouble and still close firmly. It's only a version of a cupboard opener - a couple of springs and a lever......£how much!!!
