CTR v Golf GTIv OCTY vrs 2005

Featured Replies

Probably far to early to be having thoughts like this when nothing has been seen of the new vRS..but I am torn given the pricing rumours.

Current vRS was a storming bargain, even more so whilst the last ones are being sold.If the new one is pitched at

I tend to agree. I am interested in an Octy 2 1.9 Tdi Ambiente with a couple of extras. This comes to over

i read a rumour on another car forum a while ago that the new Octavia vRS might have a 6 cylinder engine and 4wd!

Fingers crossed!

Superb

Thanks Adrian

Hmmmm...

If that's out in 2006, replacing the current "people carrier" Type-R, I might be holding out for it.

Have you driven the current CTR???

Its a fantastic car, IIRC was quicker around the top gear track then both the GTi and Cupra R!

Looks agree with some and not with others, same as all cars but dont put the CTR as a people carrier! Bread van on the other hand ;)

I was commenting on its looks only - it's simply too high and ugly for my taste. If bread van is the appropriate English terminology, than so be it.

Nothing but praise for its engine and handling, although I think it's better suited for trackdays than for day-to-day motorway-and-the-occasional-B-road use - and I'm talking boring Dutch B roads here. Perhaps it's more fun in the UK...

IMO skoda prices will over the next year or two rocket away as there badge image changes here in the UK....it has been mentioned alot on here that skoda is becomming trendy if this happens and they move away from the 'crap cheap old persons car imagine' expect them to be as dear as VW and maybe in some cases Audis!

They won't sell at VW prices, let alone Audi prices. Hit the wrong price point and you're opening yourself up to new competition.

What is certainly true is that Skoda's old image has all but eroded with the advent of the new Octy. Recent independent research in Holland and Germany bore this out. At last week's Dutch auto exhibition people were swarming all over the cars, while it was relatively quiet at the neighbours' (Seat and VW). At some time this can only be reflected in its pricing.

Having said that, the Dutch and German societies are much more egalitarian than the ever class-conscious British, so you might still profit for some time to come... The cheapo Fabia vRS looks to be proof of that, as precisely that car happens to be the first expensive Skoda for decades here... even compared to Seat!

In the hierarchy of VAG... VW will always be higher than Skoda so I don't expect to see the prices stray too far from where they are.

Although Skoda's image has improved they are still percevied to be of lower quality when compared with it's VW brethren.

People will pay what they think a product is worth....hence why people will happily pay
