Electric tail gate on the Estate slow?

Featured Replies

Hi Briskodians!

Since I've read it in several posts during my short period in this forum I have to wonder if it's really slow? This is one of my best extras so far and of course, if you stand behind it and always wait for it to open and then close afterwards, then I can understand the frustration. But why on earth should you be staring on a opening or closing tail gate? Do anyone else do the same with the electric maneuvered windows as well? :notme:

This idea put some Mr Bean pictures inside my head :giggle:

For me it's really simple. Coming from a store with some stuff for the boot (or out of my home with the skis): Open it by remote 20 meters away. Of course you had to have the key in your hand then, but thats a trick you'll learn soon enough. Throw your stuff in (hang on to your keys here), push the button on the tailgate and get into the car. It's usually closed when you get in and then you still have to put the safety belt on. Drive away, maybe a little detour B) and when you reach your destination, then the reverse operation. Push the button inside car (close to the gear shifter) and its fully open when you get out. Lock the car, take out your stuff from the boot, push the button on the tailgate and walk away. When you here the click, look back and see the lock confirmation. Done and easy-peasy. Slow? Not in my world, could NOT have used the time difference of a faster tail gate.

All this and and no dirty hands :giggle:

Or maybe I've missed something here? Please enlightening me!

Just don't do what I did once and leave the keys in the boot! You only do it once.

I agree with Suberbjoser the electric tailgate is fantastic.

Hi,

nope, you haven't missed anything! I'm gutted we didn't get it again (I had the very same on my last Verctra Est.) fantastic.... as you say, walk up to car with key at your finger tips but hands and arms full of stuff & there you go, just plonk in! No need to put all the stuff down (maybe getting things wet & mucky in the process) no hatch or saloon & only a few estates offer this.

Press button to close & by the time you're in the car & about to start it the boots just shut.... ok not quick but you'll be pushed to actually be driving away before its closed - so as correctly pointed out.... its plenty quick enough & exceedingly practical.....

I just can't believe the wife really objected to it :S

I agree with you aswell Superbjoser, although I was very reluctant when ordering it. After two weeks of using it, both my wife and I love it. Don´t understand why people find it slow, It is closed by the time I start the car, what more would you need?

Yes it is slow, but so what ... as you quite rightly have said you open the tailgate with either the remote or from inside the car anyway so by the time you get to the rear of the car it is open, how much quicker does it need to be?

The ONLY time I have 'needed' it to be quicker is when I dropped someone off and they needed to get their bag out of the boot, so I had to wait for the tailgate to close before I could pull away again, but honestly how often does that happen anyway?

I looked at this option on Sat when I ordered my new V6 (counting the days  )

My problem, apart from the cost, is that is does not suit ME. My passion is photography and carry a lot of gear. Living in London if I open the tailgate from inside the car by the time I get out and around to the rear some scrot will have run off with my stuff!

Same with closing, OK maybe a little extreme but is it that hard to open the tailgate and then shut it again?

I imagine if I had it I would get used to it, bit like auto wipers & auto lights on but all I see is more stuff to go wrong and how hard is it to turn on a switch?

I'm in a similar position.

I'm a full-time Pro photographer, and can carry a full boot of "stuff" - i access the boot many, many times on a shoot, and fear that the elec boot wouldnt appreciate the amount of times i would be activating it per day! - i didnt opt for it for this reason... it would be good tho, as per some Octavia threads, if the boot could "Open" on it's own, with the key and the assistance of a rather large spring. - i havent tried this, as again, i fear the boot wouldnt appreciate the springs!

If i was a "normal" user, the elec boot would sure have been on my options list!

I take a different view. I think it's overpriced and, having tried it on a demo car before I ordered mine, it is slow. Frustratingly slow.

It is useful and I miss having it (Volvo fitted it as standard on my last car) but for £500? No, sorry Skoda, money better spent elsewhere for me.

Mark.

I'm a pro photographer and find the tailgate is not a problem.

My gear is chained up in the back in a large Peli case.

This is how I carried my gear in my last estate (nasty Astra) with manual tailgate.

Any road up I like gadgets!

Of course you could always buy the twindoor, which if I read the instruction manual correctly has such a function (page 44- "you can also open the boot lid by pressing button 2 for 1 second)- cant confirm if this is correct as still in anticipation of delivery of my Superb

timed it on the show car: 9 seconds to full opening.

I ordered it, for a number of reasons, including the fact that you can limit the opening height... priceless in all confined parking lots.

slow - i agree; but not that slow.

I can confirm that you are correct - pressing the middle button on the key releases the boot lock and allows the lid to hinge up against the spring. It has to be manually closed, of course. :)

With three children and their various school bags, sports bags, cricket bags and hockey bags unsurprisingly quite a bit for me. ;)

Having said that, the electric boot would save me from my 15 year old slamming it shut like he his training for an iron man event and nearly bursting my eardrums. ;) ;)

Hi!

Thanks for all of you replaying! Much good and fun reading there! I can easily find my self in stevhg:s situation with his son working out on the tailgate...

My son tries to do the same closing the door. Hopefully he don't trigger the airbags. As you all know by know I'm a comfort junkie and for me lifting that tailgate, and then reach up and have to close it by hand... its to much hard work! :giggle:

Nahh, seriously, I've chose it because it was quite cheap for me, around £330 your money and therefore decided that for once, the bank account could live without that money this time.

Thanks again, I've learned a lot!

This is correct, press and hold the centre button for 2 seconds and the boot opens fully without any need to even touch the boot lid, a standard feature on all the hatch twin doors at no extra cost.
