Knocking noise

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Have a mk1 octy vrs. I have developed a knocking noise thats been getting steadily worse over the last few days. Only really starts when i let off the accelerator. Im thinking it might be driveshaft related. Have heard of problems with the diffs on these as well though. Hope its not that. Its s constant knocking and doesnt just happen over bumps although this seems to make it worse. It sounds like it coming from the front passenger side. Anybody have any ideas?

is the car standard, how old is the car and what kind of mileage has it done mate?does the knocking increase in speed with the vehicles increase in revs/speed? if that makes sense,if it does it could be transmission related, diff, driveshaft, other gearbox fault.bit vague but its difficult to tell without hearing it first hand.dont assume its the diff, knocking noises from under the car can be really simple things to rectify.it may be a worn shock ,engine mount, suspension bush, broken spring, could even be something like a loose bolt, rare but it does happen.you may want to think about fitting polybushes if the front end does get stripped down to.

Yes. The knocking does increase in tempo the faster the car is going. More in relation to actual speed than to engine speed.
