Intermitent very poor idle

Featured Replies

Hi,

Dealer has had the car a couple of times now and still not cured the problem :(

When the car is ticking over the engine revs drop by about 300rpm every couple of seconds and it sounds like every fan under the bonnet is running while this is happening. If your driving along this equates to being like a stutter from the engine, not to bad if your motoring along but makes town driving a very annoying experience. Last time they ran a diagnostic on the car while it was being a problem (I drove straight round to the dealers as it was doing it) and it gave out some codes they didn't know, they rang Skoda and Skoda told them to set the ECU up to standard settings apparently they were out. What anoys me the most is that I don't think it's anything to do with the ECU but the aircon because if you switch the aircon off it cures the problem, even though I mentioned this they still set up the ECU while doing the service yesterday and guess what I got in the car to drive home and it was still exactly the same

Anybody had the same problem or know what it might be?

Darren

Mine was a bit rough going up and down when idling, sometimes you'd think it was going to cut out. The dealer cleaned the throttle body before the christmas and it seems a lot better now.

I had something similar on my Renault Clio - at idle it would never stay at the same revs and sounded terrible. Dealer fitted a 'throttle amplifier' that cured the problem instantly - and it was cheap from what I remember.

Sounds a bit like the second cooling fan is cutting in, and the extra electrical load is pulling down the supply voltage to some other part of the electrics.

Have they monitored the 12V line when the fan cuts in?

Phil

mine has done that once, it dips and then races, a little odd, but like I said it only happened once. I've also been told its to do with emmisions regulation  i just nodded and hoped it would never happen again!!!!
