First day of Skoda ownership

Featured Replies

I have completed my first day of Skoda ownership in a rental Renault Scenic.

After less than 24 hours ownership and 100 miles, the 'Superb' had to be recovered by the RAC to the Skoda dealer. The car refused to start, had no glow plug light and the cooling fans were running continuously ntil the battery went dead - that was in the 2 hours while i waited for Skoda Assist..

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

you have been unlucky.

i picked my octavia up on 18th december last year.

it has now done 1200 miles and hasnt missed a beat.

i think it is safe to say that "some" dodgy cars will slip through the net.

i am sure that it will be sorted promptly.

This is very unfortunate and very unusual. I am sure that your dealer will put your car in order without delay (or face refunding your hard earned!!!)

Dealers fault, not the car

Unfortunately its a company car, supplied through a fleet company by a leasing company and supplied by a dealer in Derby and I live in Monmouth.........

Skoda Assist offfer a rental car for 2 days- the dealer says it will be at least 2 days before they can look at it. Too many people in the equation

I don't follow?

when did the dealers start building the cars ???

how could it possibly be the dealers fault ?

Makes me realise how lucky I am with my dealer (Progress in Letchworth), on the one occasion I had to have my old Octy recovered they looked at it immediately it was dropped off and fixed it. They will also do minor 'take a look' stuff there and then if I call in. Also when it snapped it's alternator belt they also arranged for it to be replaced straight away at their Bedford branch where I could get it too on just the battery (joys of diesel engines).

When I had a Renault Laguna I often ended up like you with a car recovered and days worth of wait for them to even take a look.

Car still in the dealers. TRhey called earlier to tell me that they thought the problem was a discharged battery. I had to tell them again that the battery was probably dead because the 2 fans were stuck on - and that the car stil wouldn't start connected to a jump pack :(

I presume tankdave is meaning that there was a problem with the way the pre-delivery check was carried out.

I bet you are totally disappointed. I would expect the dealer and Skoda technical to pull out all the stops to get you going. I hope that by now, (friday evening), that you have the car back and sorted rather than the car languishing in a workshop somewhere.

I think my Superb is brilliant and except for rubbish door speakers and a temperamental Columbus the car has been entirely faultless.

Historically if something could possibly go wrong with a car then it would happen to me, but not this time..

Yes I did, PDI is something they charge for but they dont bother doing do they, for example many people on here have had headlights pointing all over the place.

I'm not sure the dealer could pick up a component that was about to fail. To me it seems like some control module has fried. Otherwise the car was pefect on delivery - lights were correct, V7 maps etc etc

You've just been unlucky mate, I'll bet it's nothing more than a relay, if it's anything else it will be a PCB somewhere, and they fail in anything, it's pot luck I'm afraid.

It is the pits fella, but it will be something trivial and when you get it fixed take a deep breath and enjoy.

It is one great car.

Phil

I'm sure this is just bad luck. I've had mi Superb two weeks and 1200 miles and still think it's the best car I've ever had.

Sounds like a one off, almost freakish failure to me. I know it won't be much comfort to you but a work colleague of mine had to have a new steering column and extensive electrical repairs (under warranty) on her BMW 320 d, and I too had warranty work on my 320 d, so it can happen to all makes.

Got the car back last night. The dealer were insistent it was a battery problem but could not tell me how you can have a 'faulty' battery, why the battery would have been discharged or how they fixed it. The car started and drove away but i was very sceptical.

This morning i jumped in and without any confidence, turned the key. Same problem still there - no glow plug light and fans started running.

Called Skoda assist and this time a dedicated VAG road side assistance van turned up less than an hour later - last time it was a general RAC van.

Within 10 mins the patrol man had found the fact that the ECU earth was rattling loose on a stud without the nut tightened up - 10 turns of the spanner later and the car was running.

How a main dealer couldn't find anything after 4 days is beyond beief - the ECU was unreadable so you would think the first thing they would have done is plugged the car in.....The fact they wouldn't listen to a customer who obviously knew more than them about cars is frustrating

Anyway, at least i know where NOT to have my car serviced.

Sounds like a really bad dealer to me, must remember to never give them my business.

Make VERY loud noises to S.U.K. about the way you have been treated. This kind of dealer has no place in the Skoda network. I hope someone at HQ is reading this.

I called Skoda UK cutomer services. Their stance is that the dealer is an independant body and they have no control over them. I pointed out that dealerships are awarded by Skoda UK and that the dealer is potentially driving away customers. I'll be writing a letter to Skoda UK and the dealer in the next few days and also to Skoda assistnace to commend the patrol who came out today.

May I ask where this ECU actualy is as it might be worth us all checking this connection?

The earth he tightened was under the cowl between the windscreen and the engine bay on the passenger side
