Front Door Speakers?

Featured Replies

I bought a 1.9 sdi, didn't really listen to the radio on the way home.. next day I turned the radio up.. and i found out that the offside speaker was all crackly, whereas the near side was perfectly clear.. the crackling got worse as the volume increased.. it became that unbearable that i asked my brother to disconnect it when swapping my head unit. i haven't checked the speaker cables (on the speaker itself) but i will do. (hopefully one is just loose or something!).

The question is, I'm not bothered about installing some after market speakers.. i'm happy with the ones i've got! (I had a metro before.. and the speakers in the fabia are 1000000000000000000000000000^111100000(313213123^3) * 2% better.. so I was just wondering could i somehow get a working speaker from a fabia (which is being broken or scrap yard) and install it? I know I'd have to drill out the rivets.. and i'll have to (somehow) rivet them back in..? Or would it just be a massive ball ache?

For all the hassle it might be just as well to get a set of basic aftermarket ones as if you get some from a breaker they may be gubbed and you won't know until they are wired up. Not sure on the dealer price? There'll surely be someone on here who has upgraded and has some going spare though.

I have some in the for sale section that would be perfect for you.

The speaker will be knackered as the plug design is very good, it won't be a loose connection in the door.

I have a set of Alpine's going spare :giggle:

Seriously though, if you are happy with the speakers and are not fussed about making up new spacers etc, then go to the dealer and order a replacement one. From memory they are around £15. If you need to know a solution to fitting the new one without using rivets then I'll say how I managed to do it (without using self tappers), when I have got more time!

Not sure on the dealer price?

Approx £13 + VAT from TPS - not sure what the dealers will want, though...

And I have a pair of the Alpines ready - opinions seem very mixed, some "better than OE" some "no bass" and "waste of money". I wonder if quality went down after production moved to China and we both got the ones that are a load of junk and everyone else is referring to the "good" ones. I'll give them a go though and if no good will look for something better.

I guess one possible way is to use nuts and bolts plus some adhesive, once the speaker is off put the bolts in through the reverse with some adhesive to keep them in place. Let the adhesive dry and not tighten the nuts too much. Or you could use needle nose pliers and an open ended spanner to tighten. My other thought is cavity wall fixings but I doubt they'd hold firm enough to prevent rattles. Another possibility is the strong double sided tape like the 3m or no more nails stuff. Another possibility is wire/a cable tie through the holes at the back ready to feed through the holes on the speaker. Just brain farting :) U clips + self tappers + foam tape to prevent rattles are probably the best way.

Mine gave up though! It would cut out sometimes, and occasinoally spark into life for a few minutes. If I poked at the rubber joining bit, then the connection came/went in time to the my poking. (I did check it wasn't on the speaker end etc too. . .)
