Electric tailgate beeps

Featured Replies

I can see why the beeps are there but personally they are far too loud for me - I can need to open the tailgate at 3AM so as you can imagine they are probably not very welcome with my neighbours (although nobody had complained ... this was probably just a matter of time??).

Yes I know I can just open the tailgate quietly with the handle ... but WHY pay for an option and then not use it?

So yesterday I plugged VCDS in to see if I could code the beep out, or at least quieten it down, I had read on the superb-forum.de that the volume could be adjusted, however when i tried to adjust the volume it requested the security access code - despite me already inputting it (and VCDS accepting the code), so I looked for another way round the problem:

So with VCDS go into "Electronics 2"

Then click on "6D - Trunc Elec"

Click on "Coding", this takes you into the Long coding, you need: BYTE 1, BIT 5

UNTICK the Bit 5 box - Tone Generator Installed

All will then be silent when you open the tailgate either via the remote or from inside the car

(so far the other warning beeps - PDC and the alarm chirp all still work)

HTH someone.

Hi!

Thanks! Nice find! Since I don't have this VCDS (nor should I...), do you think this is something the ordinary dealer/workshop will deal with?

Depends how good your dealer is really ... most in the UK seem unable or unwilling to change the most basic settings, this maybe be because their VAS system (the official Skoda diagnostic interface) will not let them do it, however some dealers and a lot of independent VAG workshops will use VCDS, so there is no reason why if you give them a printout of the above 'walking them through' the procedure it cannot be done.

Sounds like the beep comes from the tailgate itselfe, so maybe you could just remove the trim and disconnect the speaker?

I haven't really looked but I suspect the the tone generator is integrated with the boot lock. Disconnecting anything there just might get the whole lock stop working all together. Therefore I assume that a "softkill" is a better then a "hardkilll". But thanks for the input.Maybe thats a way around this lorry-beep.

Piece of tape over the beeper / speaker thing ??

Well yes you could do that if you really wanted to take the trim off the car just to locate the speaker ..... or you could do it properly and code it out :giggle:
