IT ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT!

I have been washing and waxing since I had the fabia elegance 1.6cr tdi in black magic pearl finnish, hey ho went out today parked up and shopping, however when getting home had a look around the car and bol****,s*** and cr**,the rear drivers side taillight had a crack in it but checked it out, seems nothing pranged the car so I am a bit perplexed how this happened,I think this may off happened from going over a sleeping policeman or by closing the boot??,so I went to the dealer and they said no cover under warrantyemoticon-0104-surprised.gif,so I explained that it had only done 180 miles and that I am very protective off my vehicles,so I pleaded my case so they relented and said they would take one off another vehicle, however its not brand new, nearly new cannot really tell but I know do you know what I mean, should I just be thankful and accept the outcome

I wouldn't have thought it would just crack. Could have been anything from a trolley to a towbar on a 4x4 that cracked it. I had my grill smashed by the spare wheel on a 4x4 when mine was 2 weeks old and there was no other damage....so i can feel your pain. At the end of the day its only a bit of plastic that is cheap and easily replaceable with no paint or metalwork damage!

Nothing had gone into it at all,£70 to replace emoticon-0106-crying.gif I definate think that either cracked while going over bollard or when boot closed cannot think off any other way it happened . if I am still unhappy I will get one from the Bayemoticon-0148-yes.gif

How do you know nothing had gone into it? You said you parked up and went shopping?

Some photos of the damage would help.

Exactly. Someone will have bumped it with a trolley or something.

A million times more likely than cracking due to a bump in the road :wonder:

If I was the dealer I would have told you to get lost! Kudos to them for sorting you out

Yes, accept it! That's way beyond what I would have expected them to do. Something will have hit it when you were away from the car. If these things were prone to cracking because of road conditions, we would have heard it a lot more in here.

Sorry I am sounding un-greatfull,100% nothing pranged me I park up 5 miles away any others in a carpark, however I understand how can not be 100&sure but I am thinking that the crack started inside the hatch area rather than the main body off the cluster facing the ruddy shopping trolleys, had a look on the bay you can picjk them up for £40 new so I will give the light a bit off waxing with the meguires this will bring the shine back to it ,the stealer has the tail-light and he is claiming on a new vehicle so he's not footing the bill

I feel for you. Had my wing mirror scuffed think it was prob a supermarket car park job. Cost me £50 they had to repaint it!! :(

Feel 4 me please, there is now way this damage was not done by a trolley, way to hlgh and the bumper would have stopped it,no collision marks, hard inpact spots or scuffs this was a definate hard vibration ot similar

Bullbar, towbar, spare wheel, pickup truck, cycle carrier, etc, etc...

Was the same with my grill, no collision marks or anything to bumper, numberplates or lights. It was only because the 4x4 was still there when i saw the damage that i could put 2 and 2 together and pair the damage up to the spare wheel.

Aside to normal early depreciation it is the inevitable little chips and dents from those who don't care that put me off a new car hence why I normally by around 3 yrs old and keep for 5yrs.

I spent much time April - June last year looking but found nothing to suit me worth buying at a sensible price.

It was the VAT deal that made a new Fabia financially sensible.

Ultimately a car to me is a tool to get me and whoever / whatever to where I need to go. I do not cosset them but do keep them A1 mechanically plus clean and tidy with a polish around every 3 months.

I know I will be upset at the first parking ding, stone chip, scuff I make in the load area or on rear bumper etc.

Indeed your light cluster could have had a flaw in the moulding or have been dropped or stressed on the shop floor but equally it could be from an external object.

It would be difficult to convince a dealer of the former so fortune in the interest of good customer relations with a very local customer they are going to swap the unit.

I had the same on a previous car. Its a shopping trolley 99% sure, it can hit the light cluster without touching the bumper or paintwork.

At least you got it done for free. Sorry it happened in the first place.

Yes accept the inevitable:smirk:but does'nt it hurt deep down!,waxd the cluster again and looks O.K the wifey said forget about it:wonder:,bloody stone chip on the front bumper now!!!!!ah if there is a next time I will definate buy a 2 - 3 years old with small mileage

If its any consolation i had a massive stone hit the bonnet in 2 places causing 2 chips down to the metal and dented it.....oh and that was on the way home from picking the car up from the dealer!

Did you cry insideemoticon-0106-crying.gifI would have all these roads are bloody tatty as hell after all this snow and ice,c'mon councils of the uk sort it out potholes all over the place and getting bigger because no one is filling them cost more in the long run, idea lets all sue the councils then they would do something about the state of the roadsB)

I certainly did! It was a foreign lorry driver in front that drifted into the hard shoulder and flicked it up....so for once not a pothole or poor road (it was the M40!)

they should be cleaning these roads much better than they are doing,a lot of accidents happen when stones are picked up in the treads and thrown at 60-70 mph impacting on windscreens,I remember going around a mini round about and all of a sudden a chav in a corsa massive exhaust giving it the beans and promptly chucked a chipping through my open window and hitting the missus in the neck,oh then I got it in the neck for leaving the window open, lucky I did would have cost me to replace the window:giggle:

I can understand the OP when he says nothing hit the lens. If it was struck hard enough by a bullbar or trolley, that would be evident by a chip or dent or some collision mark at the point of impact. It would have to receive quite a knock to cause it to crack. It's not unheard of and I know recently some Mercs had problems with windscreens cracking due to incorrect installation during manufacture. In the above case it could have happened if the lens had been mis aligned during assembly and placed in such a way it was under stress.

They are a moulded unit that screw into place so wouldn't receive any stress like a windscreen would as that is bonded to the car. You can quite easily crack any light unit by putting pressure on it without leaving any stress or impact marks. My mate had a hit and run last week when his Furby VRS was hit in a car park on the front corner. The light looks in no way damaged from the outside but where it meets the bonnet inside it is totally smashed.

As for the comment about the roads, it is about time that the VED we all pay and tax at the pumps is actually pumped back into the roads instead of duck houses and moat cleaning....

I definate lets all get out onto the streets like tunisia and egypt, lets not! they would use real bullets here!!!,put the lot of them against a wall and shoot the fu*****,or give them all a greeline fabia we might save some money:giggle:

 Cheers mate. No one knows but I'm just saying your thoughts about it being caused by a fault are indeed feesible. I wouldn't dismiss it. "totally smashed" = impact. A crack can indeed be a fault. But actually if you got a replacement and it looks like new, I'd forget it. Seems you were just unlucky however it happened. :'(
