Additions to Fabia SDI classic

Featured Replies

Hi there. Bought an sdi classic on a 53 plate a. Few months ago figuring that I would upgrade the specs on it over time. I've already installed an alarm but was wondering what you guys thought of my future plans.

Cruise control.

I've seen Skoda kits fairly cheap on the tinerweb and they look fairly straight forward if you can get access to VAGCOM which I also understand isn't too hard to obtain.

Rear power windows.

Just for convenience more than anything else.

Electric mirrors.

Again can't imagine this is too hard to add on.

Was also wondering if it would be possiible to change the instrument cluster for one with a MFD rather than just the odometer and clock which came on the classic.

All of this is mainly for the fun of it as I like gadgets but can never afford a fully equipped car. Can't hurt the resale price either can it? Also is there anything else I should consider as optional upgrades?

Front fogs - requires fog light units (were quite cheap on ebay last I looked), new switch, and wire between switch and fogs and switch and instrument panel.

Under-seat storage boxes, cost around £10 each side.

A sunglasses holder which replaces the grab handle from a Golf will fit, again cheap off ebay.

The rear speaker upgrade kit that got some attention recently http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270670080942 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/186411-genuine-rear-speaker-packs-on-ebay/ if you don't like the speakers at least you'll have the wiring fitted for some better ones.

A stebel nautilus horn to upgrade the weedy OE one, currently £20 in Halfords.

finally getting around to fitting the CC after a year or so. I did manage to fit a cheap alarm last year and found a great service manual for all the fabias electronics. very comprehensive, I'll see if I can dig it out and post it up.

There is those manuals floating around the net, but mods don't seem to like them linked to here due to copyright.

Fit 6J wheels with 185/60-14 tyres. Improve things no end. If you come near Kettering in Northants I'll give you a set with usable tyres.

Electric mirrors......once addded front electric windows and electric/heated mirrors to a mates MKIII Golf.....used the wiring looms/switches/mechs from a crashed car.........can be done just need the bits, lots of time and be good with electrics. With the mirrors the glass and the motors just fit into your existing housing!!!...then you nned the loom to go from the passenger side door the whole way to the drivers door, and new blacking covers as you no longer have the manual mech on the passenger side!!.... sorry to be so dumb, but what are 6J wheels and how do they improve the handling?

wider

6j wheels are wider than the standard classic wheels and take a 185/60-14 tyre instead of a 165/70-14, which gives more rubber on the road and less flex in the tyre wall.
