Thinking of buying a high mileage Skoda octavia vrs maybe?

Featured Replies

Ok as above really. I own a astra 1.9cdti which i want rid of and i want to go back to a petrol but i also want pratical and fairly eco when driven sensibaly.

Whats the average life of these engines. Im looking at cars 2005/2006 100k-110k. I may want to remap it at some point will this be ok? Any issues with engines or gearboxs with high mileage? Any known issues to look out for?. Only want to keep it for 3years max and my average mileage will be around 12-14k a year.

So any advice? My budget is 5k.

i wouldn't have thought you could get a VRS for 5k, not a mk II anyway but maybe i'm wrong?

I have seen a few mk2 with 100-110k around £5000-6000 mark

Look out for normal wear and tear items that need replacing, such as knocking from suspension bushes etc.

You may have to budget for a clutch and DMF if you buy a car with that mileage which has not had this replaced already, that can cost £600-£800 ish.

I'm considering chopping my mk1 vRS in for a high mileage mk2 in the summer, if serviced sell there's no reason a modern engine won't last well past 200k, a car on 100k doesn't bother me at all.

Been posted here a while ago that some of the earlier GTIs with the TFSI are running happily at over 100k
