dump valve

Featured Replies

ok this is the problem,

i have got a 2005 vrs done about 2.5k. but it seems that a atmosheric(poor spelling) dumpvalve was fitted by fairys in the night and now if i let of a 2.5rpms i get a hiss?? is this normal?? i dont want my engine to go into limp mode cus the turbo is leaking!

Any ideas

rich.

mine does that it seems with a atmos DV once you ahve spooled up your turbo ie by flooring it you need to relaese of the gas pedal compltely bringing it half way up you do get a loooong release of air instead of a quick hiss, what i do is realise totaly then apply the powr slightly again... annoying but has never gone into limp mode when its done it..

That's the whole point of an atmospheric dump valve isn't it?

I'm assuming that you fitted this valve yourself. If you didn't realise that an atmospheric DV makes a hissing sound when you release the loud pedal, what made you buy it?

I think you'll find that Atmo Valve aren't recommended for fitting to VAG engines as the ECU has problems adjusting to the loss of air from the valve when you lift off.

Forge don't supply or recommend an Atmo Valve for the 1.8T so I'm guessing you have a Bailey Valve.

There's no reason why the correct kind of atmos DV should cause a problem. Twin piston DVs were developed specifically to get around the problems caused with cars with MAF sensors.

A single piston/diaphragm atmos valve will cause problems with stalling, lumpy idle, and mixture, but a twin piston won't (or shouldn't, provided the spring strengths are correct).

Try running something like a Punto GT with a Bailey DV24 and it just won't run properly. Two minutes to put a DV26 on and Hey presto! Proper running.

Anyway, I'm going to stop there, as this Recirc/Atmos question has kind of been done to death!

but the car is standard!! it just sounds like a there is one on there lol!

Has your car always sounded like this or has it just started?

Also is there a loss in performance?

The standard dv is generally very quiet and you shouldn't really hear it under normal driving conditions.

If you were to hear something it would be whenever you come off the throttle with more than 2krpm on the clock.

aahhh you didnt say that to start with the standard DV is circ not atmos... so there should be minimal noise form the unit... id get it checked out ..

Aaaaaah!

I thought

'it seems that a atmosheric(poor spelling) dumpvalve was fitted by fairys in

meant 'It seems that an atmospheric dump valve has somehow found its way under the bonnet but SWMBO doesn't know (yet)'

Like the way any modifications have to take place under MY bonnet ;)

SWMBO - she who must be obeyed

Have you noticed a drop in performance?

Just to clarify...you get a hiss at around 2.5krpm when accelerating?

SWMBO = she who must be obeyed, eg wife, girlfriend, partner, mistress etc.

If your car isn't still under warranty, a standard DV only costs circa
