DNA Stage 3 Remap installed

Featured Replies

Woke up at 530am this morning to take the car to DNA tuning, Ejm preparation, Alcester. I had my Mk1 Octavia mapped by DNA and also a stage 1 on the Mk2 but now it was time for stage 3.

I told John I wanted a map which took into account the extra fueling which would be provided by Autotech internals which I have ready to install. This was not a problem as he has many different maps tailored for different mods on the Tfsi. I also got the decat cel mapped out so all's good now.

First impressions are OMG it's fast! where the stage 1 seemed to run out of puff now it just keeps on pulling. I achieved the same mpg on the way down as on the way back too  I would defo recommend DNA to anyone, I just need a RR day now

Oh my mate got his A4 DTM stage 1 map at the same time and is also very pleased B)

For anyone interested the stage 1 map was £195 with a forum discount with stage 2 or 3 an extra £150.

stage 1 to stage 2+ shoud be pretty good gains, best way to do it i think. theres a few guys on the GTI forum who went from stock ed30 to fully fledged stage 2+ thats nearly 130hp/130lbft gains lol. Are you going to get it on a dyno (preferebaly dyno dynamics so we get real figures lol).

what other mods have you got?

Just read you sig. Your runnig the panel filter @ stage 3, so it will 100% be struggling for air now. At stage 2+ you will get some very good gains with a good intake.

Aye John reckons there is nothing much to be gained from an intake and finds them gimmicky. They run a 365bhp k1 in some cup event and that runs a standard VAG panel filter. I've also heard of others with panels doing very well on RR days too.

hes talking rubbish then. Ive personnaly seen K04 cars run before and after with and without an intake and the difference were always above 20HP. When i stripped my ITG of my car when i sold it to muckipup (still @stage 3 at this point) the car felt absolutely dead at the top end.

I could point you to at least 5 threads with before and after runs with guys fitting intakes and getting very good gains.

Its alright saying you have heard of guys making good figures onn RR days with the panel filter, but i have seen cars with identical maps(revo stage 2) on a rolling road days make around 10-15hp different.

its difficult to compare hp figures unless they are on the same dyno same day with the same operators etc to many variable else. IMO the intake is proven, ive seen so many instances of the intakes gains to think otherwise. ( i did think similar to you though when i first bought the octavia)

that said it will still make good power but it wont match the guys with intakes. It might pay to get your car logged in the summer to see how it copes with intake air temps when it gets hot. Mine took ages to bring the air intake temps back down to ambient after a WOT run. if i hgadnt of sold i 100% would have got an intercooler. If i were to do it again, id get the intercooler first tbh

I've had intakes on other cars and found them carp tbh but we're all entitled to our opinion and Defo agree on the intercooler and trying to keep temps down. I'll send you a pm at some point.

yeah mate feel free to PM me anytime.

Ref the intakes you tried, were they on normally aspirated cars, as NA cars dont benefit much from filter mods at all. turbo charged/supercharged engines are different as they really benefit from the amount of air they can feed into the turbo. iirc the tuners say for every G/S increase in Mass Air Flow you gain it wil equate to around 0.81Hp. I logged my ITG vS stock intake when i was running stage 1 and there was an 18g/s difference. (so about 14Hp) even more so @ stage 2 and 3

another one from the tuners is that they say for every degree you Air intake temperature rises you loose around 1Hp.

Now when i last logged my car before selling the normal running temps were solid @ around 24 degrees. I did 2 WOT runs in 4th. the Air intake temps had risen to nearly 50 degrees, so a potential 25hp loss until the intercooler eventually brought it all back in line. So whilst an uprated intercooler might not make you any more power, it will certainly help you maintain that power you have for longer durations and recover from heat soak faster

Totally agree about the heatsoak and car did feel slightly slower after the good hard run back. I had an intake on my last 1.8t and whilst it looked good and gave slightly more g/s it felt slower and felt like it had much less torque. I went back to airbox in the end.

Dont know much about the 1.8T. KNow quite a bit about the TFSI though. You just have to look at the standard air intake on the TFSI. Half the air entering the slam panel can escape out the bottom of the duct as there is a big 2" slot across the bottom of it. it then goes into the engine cover where it undertakes 4 right angle directionchanges in a very short distance before entering the turbo.

You only have to look at the new TSI engine and you realise that even VAG have changed the TSI intake design to the same style as the Uprated TFSI intakes and binned the incorporated engine cover system.

You do have to take alot of points into consideration, main ones being Cold air input, heat shields, and the internal MAF diameter. I was given the Pipercross Venom intake by a guy on here, i tried it on my car, went out and logged it and it lost alot of air flow compared to stock, purely because all they had done was get some tubing, and stick a filter on the end. there was no heat shields, the filter area was small, and the internal MAF diameter wasnt the same as stock.

I think what this guy has done is a very good idea. He used the standard MAF housing (which is eliptical, unlike the aftermarkets which are cylindrical) so his long term fuel trims will be perfect, he's then used the BSH intake which is cheap and performs well, mated them together and cut his engine cover to fit in place.

You maybe right I ain't sure but if 365bhp is achievable on a k1 with minimal engine mods and stock filter then it's good enough for me. The k1 in question had to be detuned in the end due to the racing classes power to weight ratio.

Another thing is I don't want the chavy noise which comes with the intakes, I'm getting too old for all that lol.

Getting a little off topic now :S

That sounds like a good price for the basic map; I'm getting more and more tempted to get our Scout done.

What sort of increase in insurance premiums should we expect?

mine with full stage 3 engine mods (270-280Hp), and all the chassis mods was only an additional £70 per year. Try the modified specialists like adrian flux, chris knott and greenlight etc, and play them off each other with their quotes
