engine fire

Featured Replies

Hi

just had an engine fire in my 05 TDI octavia, started with the large radiator cooling fan seizing and causing the cooling fan relay 1JO 919 506 catching fire and melting all the attached plugs, associated cables, battery cover and the plastic trunking ... NO fuses blown !!!

My question ... there seems to be different versions of the cooling fan relay available to purchase .... relay number 1JO 919 506 ending with the letter A K L M and Q .

Can anybody tell me what the difference is with these relays and which is the best to fit as a direct replacement.

Thanks in advance

The letter on the end of a VAG part no. is normally the revision code.

This are just incremented as new parts are released to fixed some known issue.

Therefore a "Q" relay would be the best option ...

Thanks for the info ... shall buy the Q lettered module

Cheers

as with snowmuncher, the letter is the revision, so generally the latest letter you can get is your best bet. Not sure what happens when the revision hits Z, if they loop back to A or what? double letters maybe? AA, AB?

Bad news about your rad fan catching fire though. I guess most of the time it does not need to run, especially given the rather nippy temps outside as of late.... were you giving yours some stick or stuck in traffic?

I normally give both of mine a spin every time I open the bonnet
