Diesel Alternator Removal

Featured Replies

Hello To Everyone,

I am at my wits end because i spend 6 hours yesterday trying to remove the alternator from my 02 plate Octavia 1. I've got a haynes manual but it is totally wrong on how to remove it. The most accurate bit is that you have to remove the front offside wheel, wheel arch trim & air conditioning compressor. After that it doesn't tell you that you need to remove the belt tensioner to unbolt the 2nd alternator bolt & when you finally do that the alterantor does not pass anything to slide it out. The haynes manual says "unbolt the 2 screws & slide away the alternator", well i would if all the rubber pipes & the power steering pump was not in the way.

Can some kind person please tell me how to remove the alternator from the engine compartment once it's unbolted? I can't remove the power steering pump because it is hard piped with metal tubing. I don't want to give in & take it to a garage but i've got a car in bits on my drive & no help from haynes on what to do next, gggrrrrrrrrr :(

I need to get my alternator out too. Unfortunately I am without my Haynes manual, as the piggy car decided to break when I wasn't at home, so I only have Brisky to guide me

I haven't taken out my aircon pump yet - do not know if I should attempt a downwards exit, or an upwards escape....

Edit: not to worry. Found this page: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/121383-octavia-alternator-removal which seems to cover most things.
