Non VRS Petrol choice

Which 95 RON fuel do people on here prefer?

I had never given it much thought before I got the Fabia....but since it's the newest car (still nearly 3 yrs old!) I have owned I really want to make it last as well as it can to either keep it going a long time or keep some value (for when I change to an Octavia in a few years B) ).

It used to be that super market fuel was a good 4-10 p a litre cheaper but with the hiking prices, Morrisons fuel (what I have previously used most often) costs the same or within 2/3p of all the "branded" 95 RONs. This means (given the small fabia tank that it's only going to cost 40 - 120p a tank to "go premium". So anyway, first tank I used was Texaco which seemed fine and returned decent economy with mixed motorway/town driving and the car drove great. Next was Morrisons (to compare). This made the car run noticeably more sluggish, not by a massive amount - but the "pull" seemed absent without changing down gears. It also seemed a bit noiser...especially at low speeds. Next was Shell and after 100 miles or so the "pull" seemed to have returned, but economy was rather poor and struggled to get 300 miles out of a tank (38 litres worth), and I'm certainly no boy racer. Last fill up was Total and this seems to be running much like the first batch of Texaco, nice and quiet, plenty of "pull" and 200 miles done - half way down on fuel gauge. - next fuel up will be Esso I think.

So who else has done a comparrison or has a preffered choice? In particular I'm talking about 95RON unleaded (as most discussions are about 95 vs 98+).

Cheers

Chris

My preferred fuel is Shell. My local Shell station is often 1p cheaper than Tesco. I tried Tesco 95 and the car ran rough on it, so I will stick to branded fuel. If I can't get Shell, my next choice would be Esso.

would agree, I go to the local Shell garage, wont use the local Morrisons - always busty and my car ran a bit rough on it and was even worse on Tesco 95 RON. Havent tried the local Total, its 10p more per litre for some random reason!

I found my HTP runs poor on Shell Fuelsave, but runs the same on any other fuel. On Shell it doesnt pull well and feels rough at low revs.

You've certainly picked the right car if you want one to last a long time. Not long ago I met someone with your model, they've owned it from new and it had covered 109,000 miles without problems of any kind. The 3 cylinder petrol 1.2 is so tough in either format, 60 or 70ps. Fuel should not be a big problem I wouldn't have thought. But would strongly suggest you stay away from supermarket stuff if you want to keep it a long time. I speak as an ex-tech who has seen what that type of fuel does to the inside of your engine and that's regardless of how it appears to run. Enjoy your car...it's a good un!

That's good to know. Cheers.

My thoughts exactly, if you care about your car you dont fill up in a supermarket!
