I believe this is an option on the vRS Fabia. I can't find any info in the Skoda brochures or on the website.

What is it and how will I benefit from it?

Extra Sensory Perception. It'll help you foresee the future.

Oh, and on cars it means 'Electronic Stability Programme'. It (supposedly) stops you making silly mistakes on corners and overcooking it into a hedge.

What it actually does is chop the power every time you try to have fun, forcing you to slap the button every time you get in the car, thus rendering the whole thing utterly pointless

I have it on my vRS, and reckon it's very good

Do a search on this site for "ESP" then you'll be able to make an educated decision as to whether you can justify the

Thanks for the replies.

WRCSixtyThree,

You're obviously younger than I am.

aixlad,

Does it just work when you are really cornering hard (i.e. screeching tyres) or does it come in at more moderate speeds?

I've been driving for about 30 years and I reckon I almost screeched the tyres on a corner once

Perhaps it would be wasted on me.

Thanks for the replies.

Highly possible. I do generally drive like a Grandfather though. :D

Before you form a stereotype image of me from the fact that I mentioned 'fun' and silly mistakes, I'd just like to point out that my reference was based on the fact that I personally prefer my driving without assistance from computers. :)

And no, I'm not some irresponsible maniac. Safe speed for life.

Eh?

Let me make my position clear. I am in no way supporting speeding, dangerous driving, road racing or any other childish attempt to prove that my car is faster/louder/flashier than the next person's.

I deplore irresponsible driving. Nova/Saxo/Corsa drivers who think it's funny to sit inches off other people's bumpers, people driving around with fog lights on, people who don't understand the concept of the 'overtaking lane' on motorways, drivers who pass on the left, tailgaters, people driving in bad light/poor visibility with no lights on, people with defective brakelights/bald tyres/no MOT/no insurance all represent considerably more danger to themselves and third parties than an experienced driver driving within his own limits and those of his car on wide, quiet, well surfaced and dry back roads.

I have this on my VRS. It has flashed once or twice, usually on uneven surfaces. Switching it off does seem to make the car feel more 'urgent'.

I guess it would be useful in an emergency situation, for instance.

I've only noticed my ESP light on once and that was last weekend when I tried to take a right turn not realising how fast I was traveling and had to do some major breaking to stop the car mounting the verge and ending up in a field. It's all a bit of a haze but I felt the wheels break, not all at once and I came to a nice stop which I was rather pleased about at the time. :P

I test drove a demo with ESP - was originally going to order it myself - after assuming it worked I almost wrote the car off - it does not prevent you going sideways, whether you do it intentionally or not!

Also, there's the school of thought that you'll actually drive more dangerously (as we all do with ABS these days!!) with more electronic driver aids - based on my experience it's a waste of money and a waste of space; if you can't drive without going sideways or spinning you shouldn't have a license.

That'll stir up some debate!

Loz - if you've got ESP the button says ESP; if you've got standard traction it says ASR - you never get 2 buttons.

Nah, I checked it out on some quiet icy roads recenty on the way back from work. I thought it was good at straightening the car out when it got into a skid. If you want to drive like a nutter ba5tard, then you have to rely on God! ESP is a safety device just in case something untowards happens.. It's not like Rear Foglights which enable you to continue driving at 70+mph in dense fog just by switching them on

Would having an 05 reg furby' date=' instead of a 54 one be financially worth it, or should I just go for the 54 one, which could be ready very soon?

If you can hold out, you might aswell wait for the new plates, I suppose it will add some value when you come to sell. I'm due for march so I'm just quitely counting the days....28 now by the way! :D

Depends how much he loses through the px deal though. I suspect it'll balance out overall as dealers are quite sneaky like that ;)

Chris

Thanks for the info Ross.

Must be the original one they located although they never said anything.

I wouldn't call it sneaky - it's just plain business sense...
