Potential wrong oil in vRS

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I bought a fabia vRS SE last week, but having checked through the paperwork for the service they carried out before I collected the car it makes no mention of the oil that they used other than it being 5w40.

I am a little concerned that they may not know the special oil reqiuirements of the VAG 1PD engines since they are a Citroen specialist. The issue is I live nr Ely, and the dealership is in Rotherham. I have tried to get the information about what oil they have used but as yet I have had no reply from them.

So my question is, if they have used the wrong oil - would I have noticed any signs or symptoms? The car is a little clattery at cold start up but this seems pretty normal for PD 1.9s, once warm the engine is very quiet with a refined diesel burble. There is ZERO smoke from the exhaust even under moderate accelaration. The car performed faultlessly on the 180mile journey home with no lights on the dash or funny power delivery or excess heat etc. Would there be any observable signs if the wrong oil had been used or would I simply be causing engine damage by continuing to drive it? Am i worrying about nothing? (probalbly - knowing me LOL)

I am hoping to get a definitive answer soon from the dealership.

The Dealership is a Citroen main dealer - is the Citroen recommended oil one of the ones detailed in the oil list on this forum?

Thanks for your help in advance.

On an additional note - what a fantastic little car! Refined, comfortable, purposefully rapid in real world conditions, and perfectly good handling for making good progree in comfort. A wonderful combination and a near perfect blend of characteristics for todays roads and fuel prices. Now where can I get a remap . . . .?

Steve

There are a number of members on here who swear by non-VAG approved oils, and it even says in the manual that you can run the engine on (IIRC) ACEA B3/B4 oil if you can't get anything else. So you're very very very unlikely to have done any damage in just a week's driving! I'd recommend getting the right stuff put in at the next available opportunity, but TBH I'm saying it more for your nerves' sake than the engine!!!

i dont think youll have any issues if its been 5w40, a you could always phone them and speak to a mechanic to possibly get more info on the oil used.
