VRS Check Oil Engine Light

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I know it's been asked loads of times before, however, I just got in the car now to go to work and the check engine oil light is on. Checked the oil, does seem a little low.

Rang my mate and he is taking me to work in about an hour now, don't want to risk taking the car!

What oil can I quickly get today off the shelf of say Halfords or something like that?

Edit: Handbook says VW 504 00 spec for the 1.4ltr./132kW TSI - EU5

Many thanks,

Stu

Hi Stu, pop in to Halfords and get some Castrol Edge 5w-30. That willdo the job! Pete

I had exactly the same thing Stu but I took the car anyway. It was fine and I managed to do 60 miles. Read my thread about it if it helps

Buy the Castrol that Pete recommended.

Brilliant, thank you very much guys!

This was the stuff I thought of, it appears to have the correct VW code as well. Expensive though!

Yeah, I could have probably driven too, wasn't worth the risk IMO with an alternative lift available.

Thanks again.

Edit: Just remembered, I only checked the oil a few weeks back and it was at the normal level!

Some 1.4TSI guzzle oil. Keep a real eye on it. Off the top of my head I can't remember which it is you need.

Just put 3/4 of a litre of Castrol Edge in, that filled it to the top.

Had the VW 504 00 standard on it.

I might look into fixed service interval and changing the oil to 502 00 spec, if it is going to drink 'long life' oil this fast!

Edit: Castrol Edge 504 Spec is £10 per/l or £30 for 4 litres at ASDA!

Yep , already got some oil ( Castrol Edge 5W-30) already. All I now need is the car engine to pour it in emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

all the fabia vrs are on the fixed 12 month service are they not?

Mine used 1 litre over first 2000 miles, another litre over next 3000 miles so hopefully oil consumption is slowing.

Me old mk1 TDi took over 10000 miles from new for the oil consumption to settle down.

Go to Opieoils and they sell cheaper than most and you should get a discount through this forum. I bought some already for the vRS (prior to it arriving) with the discount from Opie on the Mazda forum.

Hope this helps.

Then the use of 504 spec oil does not make sense.

In the manual it states for the VRS engine, 504 spec should be used for Flexible Service Intervals.

It also states 'Engine oil specifications for vehicles with fixed service intervals' should use 502 spec oil.

We do not run variable on the Fabia II

502 oil such as Quantum Platinum is just fine.

Hmm.

Might need to re-consider buying 5 litres of 504 spec stuff tomorrow :wonder:

I used this firm :-

as suggested by "bullyboy" above.

John

That seems expensive.

E.G. Castrol Edge, nearly £40, nearly £36 if a member - £30 inc VAT at ASDA :|

We were given 504 spec oil with the car.have you tried vw dealers our local one is cheaper than skoda for 504 spec oil

You can soon tell if your car has been set to fixed or variable servicing at the factory by looking at the build sticker next to the spare wheel or in the service book. If it says QG0 you are on fixed, if it says QG1 you are on variable.

I think I am going to do fixed servicing anyway, as I won't be going through Skoda.

Every 10,000 I will be doing, so I have gone for 502 spec oil.
