DAB Options ?

Featured Replies

Hi just wandering what owners have done to get DAB radio in their MkII Superb? This was one of my concerns when coming to chose my new car. I currently hare a "portable" Pure DA stuck to the windscreen next to my tom tom. Hoping not to have either for when my Superb arrives. This comes from avid Radio5Live listener.

Far as I can tell you will have to stick with your Pure.

Find it ridiculous that you can spec DAB as an extra on the RCD 310 (aka Swing in Superb S) or RCD 510 (aka Bolero in Superb SE) on a new Polo, but cant spec it on the Skoda

Not sure if the software is already fitted in these units and just needs activated when you buy the spec, like eg cornering lights or other extras in Superb S that can be activated by VCDS

If VAG group recognise DAB as a meaningful extra then dont understand why it cant be a cost option across the rangeemoticon-0179-headbang.gifemoticon-0121-angry.gif

Totally agree with the comments. I still can't understand why there is no option. I had a Blaupunkt DAB head installed in my vehicle 8 years ago so kind of got used to the choices DAB give you. But there are few options for a double din DAB head unit available.

I hate having wires all over the dash so have avoided the Pure unit and have made do so far.

Its all part of VAGs way to differentiate the marques. VW are meant to be more up market than Skoda, hence better options.

Apart from listening to stations which are not on FM, I see little point in DAB. I had it for a while years ago in my first Octy, but since they started dropping the quality of the stations and implementing quantity over quality I can no longer stand the poor audio quality of DAB. Plug a DAB radio into a quality sound system and its truely awfull. The rest of europe have already dumped the current UK DAB (MP2 based) implementation in favour of either sticking with FM or trialling DAB+.

....not a fan of "Planet Rock" then....??

I don't think that is the case. It is SUK that has a marketing department run by a bunch of part time housewives that have no idea which pedal in a car makes it go forward and that a car can in fact turn both left and right. They have no idea what DAB is, they don't visit forums like this and they don't care - preferring to discuss last TV cooking programs rather than cars (when at "work"). In this exact same way they refuse to offer MDI on the Yeti for instance...

I had mine Bolero radio disassembled the other day in "atoms". The only difference to VW RCD510 I could find is the green illumination.

Where the DAB tuner is placed in a RCD510, there is just a empty (footprint) space in the Bolero. I would bet that if a tuner is soldered in together with associated components, it would play DAB. This is just not easy done, because the components can not be bought separately.

I see two ways forward to get integrated DAB in the Superb mk II. Either go buying a VW RCD510 with DAB option - part no 3C8 057 195 A (RCD510 without DAB is 3C8 057 195), install it together with a antenna and it will probably work 100%. Even further modify it with a Bolereo front, to get the green illumination.

In fact I would say, that a baseboard from a RCD510 could do it. The advantage would be, that the security code will remain the same, since this is handled on a seperate processor board. I then assume that the Bolero firmware has the DAB functionality.

I guess its a matter of time, before Skoda will offer the Bolero with DAB. Several countries has decided to shut down the FM network. In france every new car MUST have (mandatory requirement) DAB from 2012. I guess Skoda technicians are preparing a solution for this marked now.

No ready solution, but just my 5 cents.
