Tuning the 1.6 Felicia?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Just picked up a 1.6 Felicia on a V with 32k. which is the AEE engine?!

IMO it needs more power than the standard 75 bhp, what can be done?

I had a little read else where about fitting Polo GT Injectors etc but its all a little vague...

I don't want to spend a fortune, Its just for a bit of fun

Excited to hear what you suggest!! :smirk:

I've been told fitting the 1.4 16v 100bhp engine out of a Polo is the best option, for a few reasons,

1) it's cheap to buy and virtually a straight swap bar about 3 minor changes,

2) being smaller capacity and more modern than the current engine means it will be more economical

3) there are more tuning parts available for the 1.4 16v 100bhp engine shoud you require more power

4) being a smaller capacity means it's also fairly insurance friendly. stories on here are of some people not even being charged a penny extra for it.

alternatively

you can construct a bodged full aftermarket exhaust system, like myself and teflon Tom have done, all you need is a stainless steel manifold from ebay £168(search for one as a polo manifold)

a sport cat or just use the decat pipe included with the manifold! then convert the rest of your system to the 50mm bore diesel exhaust instead of the 42mm bore 1.6 exhaust, or if you have the dollar and are interested in the noise and ashetics then a cat back system from a aftermarket provider should suffice.

all that should give at least a 5bhp increase, add a induction kit, and street cams you could be pushing 90bhp, but the low end power band will be sufferering. and most importanly, putting a 1.4 16v would work out cheaper in the end.

....and, if I recall correctly, the 1.4 16v starts at 100BHP before mods. (I have one on my christmas list now ;-) )

you wont be able to use gt injectors (digifant) without making up some spacers for the fuel rail

i would just chuck a 16v polo engine in there and be done with it, simples

The 1.4 16v was available in 75 bhp wasnt it? Mated to the slushmatic in the Furby mk1

the later 16v engines from a fabia are not really suitable for conversion into a felicia, there's too many hurdles to jump to get them running in an earlier car, however if you were feeling slick they do have an all alloy engine block which is much lighter than the earlier cast iron block, it would be possible to use the ally block with the earlier head on it but you would need to do some fiddling with head bolts and gaskets etc to get it to work

i am looking at doing this now as i have got a 1.3mpi with 48K and want more power but cheap tax

^ mine was originally a 1300mpi so it can be done!! you just have to find a few more bits and pieces to get it to work

Hey

Just noticed, your only up the road. I'm based in St Leonards.

Thanks everyone for your help, I think I going to go down the Transplant route, as its probably easier and I have never done it before!

J

find youself a good engine, then i'm sure amongst the peoples on here you'd be able to find the rest of the bits you need... i'm sure i could make a trip out your way to lend a hand

Tom if you are gonna make a trip to give a helping hand then we may as well do mine at the same time, i live less than 20mins from Wolfy!

BTW Wolfy, not only to we live near each each other we are also of similar age, im born 1989 so perhap we know each other???

we should convoy up to maidstone together next month for the meet there!!!

actually Tom, i remembered i decided against doing the engine swap in the end because i wanted to save the money to do a 1ZZ-FE(140bhp engine standard in my mr2) to a 2ZZ-GE(190bhp toyota engine fitted to the elise and exige)

I reckon a man like you will come in very handy no matter what car is being engine swapped

Tom if you are gonna make a trip to give a helping hand then we may as well do mine at the same time

you're going to chuck you shiny manifold out then after all that balls-ache with the pipework?

Maybe we do, although I am sure would remember some one my age with a 944! especially as I only moved from Bexhill 3 months ago...

I actually got the car for my GF on the understanding I can do whatever I like to it. So yeah, help would be much appreciated!

Are you on PistonHeads?

.... Come to think of it there is a 944 on Bexhill Rd?

Right I have had a little look around for a suitable engine...

a polo 1.4 16v engine is as much if not more than a VR6 or 1.8 GTI engine?!

Has anybody done any interesting heart transplants on the Felicia? Would be great to read about it if its on here!

What meet is on at Maidstone?

VR6 or 1.8 GTI engine?!

i'll do you a vr6 transplant for about 5k, and i'd want the car here, and it will be off the road for about 4/5 months
