Headlight washers

Featured Replies

I am sure I read that the headlight washers should go off every 5th time you spray windscreen / rear screen and reset itself when you switch the car off, is this true?

Reason I ask is mine doesn't and I wondered if the previous owner had changed something

Thanks

Mines do but thats the only thing that seems to work at the moment lol.

Just discovered the heated rear screen doesnt work and the lights are misaligned :wonder:

Which bit don't your headlights do? Do they not reset or do they not go off every five washes?

Oops, sorry mine don't reset themselves

That sounds like a welcome change to me but it is something that can be altered I believe as can be the number of screen washes between headlight washes.

What you say is true. But what isn't happening? They're going off each and every time you use the screenwash? Or that you're restarting the car and they're NOT coming into play the first time you use screenwash.

Quite a bit of their behaviour can be altered using VCDS, within Module 09 (for pre-FL cars).

It doesn't reset. I can have just started my drive and wash the windscreen for the first time and the headlight washers go off. From my understanding I thought that a fresh start meant you had to use the washers 5 times on that drive?

no each "reset" as it were (ignition off then on) resets it so first pull will do lights and screen then every 5th pull from then unless you switch the ignition off.

Yes that is what mine does. I flick the windscreen wash before switching the lights on to save on the fluid !

Oh. Weird!

Started the car, washed the windscreen and the car washed the lights

Mine only does that if the lights are switched on at the time.

Depends on your definition of resetting :)

That's correct behaviour you're seeing as I understand it. You might want to do what I did though, and lengthen the time you need to apply screenwash for, before the headlamp washers come into play. Default is 200ms; I've set mine to 1500ms. There's a thread about it by me in the VCDS section if you're interested.

Correct operation is that they activate on the first use of the screenwash on that particular journey/start of the engine, and THEN every 5th use.

Cheers,

Steve

I use my DRL's  during daylight ,so headlamp wash only used when headlights are on, another reason why DRL's are good.
