Driver's window not working

Featured Replies

The window on the driver's side of my Octavia 2000 has stopped working. This happened during the cold weather so we assumed the motor may have burnt out but the window did work intermittently but is has stopped working completely now. Does anyone know where the best place is to buy a motor as Skoda want £210 for one but wondered if there were any internet sites that might sell new motors cheaper.

Cheers

Does everything else working on that door?

Check the central locking by pressing the lock/unlock buttons on the driver's armrest.

Check all four windows switches on the driver's armrest

Check the LED flashes when the doors are locked.

Check the interior light comes on when the door is opened

Check the mirrors and mirror heaters.

It is often the electronics in the box attached to door motor unit that fail.

If it is only the window that is not working, it may just be the motor contacts.

Remove the motor unit from the window regulator.

Remove the spring clip.

Open the six plastic latches and pull the control unit off the assembly. Examine the contacts (B - second pic) that stick out of the control unit.

If they are OK, undo the four screws that hold the actual motor and withdraw it from the gearbox.

Hold the motor vertically. Apply a voltage to the two contacts of the motor (A -second pic) for one second. A 9v battery is fine. You should feel the motor trying to turn. If it does then the whole motor assembly will need to be replaced as the electronics in the box has had it.

If the motor itself is dead, and you can't find someone on here who has a complete unit then PM me

Thanks for the suggestions, checked everything else apart from trying to get the motor going. Does anyone know if the back window motor is the same as the front?

The motor is working but it seems to be the electronic box which is not sending out power. Can you recommend a place I can buy a new unit from. I've tried Skoda and they want £210.

Thank

Unfortunately, you can't buy the box separately, so you have to buy the motor which includes it. If you want a new one, you have to go to the dealer (or TPS if you have a mate in the motor trade). There is no aftermarket solution.

The best option is to find someone breaking a car or go to a scrap yard (£50 seems to be the going rate). Make sure you get one with the same part number (usually on a white label on the motor part of the assembly.
