Engine Light - ARRRGGHGHH

Featured Replies

Ok,

So it seems to be a daily occurence of new issues for our vRS.

Mrs is driving and relaying them to me!

Today it's an engine light, and it stays on, doesn't go out.

Car performs normally, no rough running - drives as it has done from day one..... So what could it be??

Tris

Have you had it scanned for fault codes? Might be worth checking to see if anyone in your area has Vagcom/VCDS to scan it for you?

I will have to I think mate.

I believe Fatty5000 is about an hour from me.

Cheers

When i had a light it was an ignition coil. (Car drove fine!) but obviously the coil had only just started to go.

I've got that fault reader and it's fine. You need to get the car scanned for codes as anything anyone suggest as to what's wrong with it will just be a shot in dark. Your car appears to have been messed about with by the previous owners, might be worth getting it checked over by a specialist to make sure everything is okay.

Cheers for that. - I'll get that reader as it will be handy.

But will try to find a specialist too.

Thanks very much all

Yeah Tris. As others I can't really help beyond "check codes" here. I suggested contacting Fatty partly because he knows who's who and where round S Wales better than I do, and I know he'll help as much as he can.

Cheers Ken,

I realise I'm being quite demanding in my infancy on this forum, for that I apologies to all.

But thank you all so much for being patient and so very helpful.

I contacted Fatty via a message on this forum earlier this morning, so I await his reply to see what I can do.

Thanks,

Tris

Ok, error codes I have (in order read by the machine)

17705

17608

16487

17545

The only code I could Identify was the 3rd one on my list: "Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit-High Input. May be due to a low" and the description stopped there.....

Tris

Full discripson:-

16487 P0103 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit - High Input. May be due to a low battery if

found with 17988 (P1580)

17705:-

17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

Possible Symptoms

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON

Power Loss

Possible Causes

Leaking Hoses and/or Pipes between Components

Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) faulty

Diverter Valve faulty

Throttle Body dirty

Possible Solutions

Check Hoses and Pipes between Components

Check / Replace Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)

Check / Replace Diverter Valve

Check / Clean Throttle Body

Perform Throttle Body Alignment

Special Notes

Did anyone install an extra (wrong) dump valve?

When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve

If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

17608:-

17608/P1200/004608 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Mechanical Malfunction

Possible Symptoms

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON

Power Loss

Possible Causes

Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) faulty

Diverter Valve faulty

Possible Solutions

Check / Replace Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)

Check / Replace Diverter Valve

17545:-

17545/P1137/004407 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich

Possible Symptoms

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) active

Possible Causes

Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor faulty

Fuel Pressure Regulator faulty

Fuel Injector(s) faulty

Oxygen Sensor Control faulty

Oxygen Sensor(s) faulty

Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System faulty

Possible Solutions

Check Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor

Check Fuel Pressure Regulator

Check Fuel Injector(s)

Check Oxygen Sensor Control

Check Oxygen Sensor(s)

Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System

Excellent, cheers. I've bookmarked the wiki now, cheers.

So looks like I need a new MAF.

The Diverter Valve issues could be down to the fact that the previous owner put an atmospheric relocated dump valve on the car. I've sourced the parts from other kind members on here, so hopefully, that will sort that out.

Anyone know where's best to get the MAF? eBay one's any good? or best to get an OEM one from Skoda?

ta,

Tris

Think you have to check that it is your maf first before replacing it. Have you deleted the codes to see if they come back??

Yeah, that's what I think I'll do mate. Once I get all the original stuff back on (Airbox, DV, and recric pipes) I'll see how it goes then, and make a decision if the error codes come back.

As I said previously, the car is running perfectly. So I think it's the aftermarket parts throwing these codes.

I just cleared the codes and started the car, engine light hasn't come back on. Will be taking it out later. When we stop I'll check the codes again to see if they've returned.

Thanks again

Tris

Just been for a fairly long drive.

Engine light stayed off and hasn't returned.

The only error code that is in the system now is 17705. And I think it's because of the atmospheric dump valve the numpty before me installed on the car.

So when I get the diverter valve back in, I'll reset the code and see it returns then.

Cheers

Tris
