I have a 1.2 classic, it is a nice little engine but not hugely economical on fast runs, very good in town though.

If you are in a position to, I'd suggest the comfort, it has a little bit more. The classic lacks central locking for example, and has hand wind windows.

This might not bother you, it's certainly something I can live with, but worth considering.

given that it's replacing a 15 yr old Felicia, it'll be like luxury. The Felicia did have central locking though!

that one in your first link...

id take a gamble on it and get it serviced up, new belts, and new tires and it should be a cracker

My lad picked up an 03 Classic 1.2HTP 54 (with factory central locking pack) last year from a local main dealer, full Skoda history bar one service, 40K miles for just over £3000 with a years RAC warranty. Been a great starter car for him, insurance is a lot less then his mates older Ford Fiesta. I'm currently using it two or three days a week to commute to work across the Yorkshire Wolds, climbs hills fine and currently getting 44mpg.

Only belt on MPI is the aux drive belt, cam is chain driven. I still think £3k is way too high though, and it's obviously a price pandering to the "oh look how low miles" people who think low miles are brilliant. It must be the most expensive 1.4mpi out there and I doubt it's the best. Either way if you do high miles or have concerns about tax and fuel costs I'd avoid it, it was deprecated due to EU emissions regulations for a reason.

+1 vote for the 1.4tdi
