CD Auto Changer help

Featured Replies

OK, following on from this thread - http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/189327-how-do-i-remove-cd-autochanger/page__p__2260370__fromsearch__1entry2260370

I still have the same problem, the cd autochanger selects each disc 1->6 and says surface, I removed the CD Autochanger and give it a blow out inside, I cleaned the cd grabbers with a long cotton wool bud soaked in pure alcohol then dried them off, I have now reconnected the CD autochanger and I am now getting CHK MAGAZINE !

Any further advice greatly appreciated.

Assuming you have ensured the mag and discs are inserted the correct way, then you seem to have covered most of the common causes. In my case it worked better in warmer weather but still failed to read some discs so eventually bought a new unit for just over £100 on ebay. The one i bought said Audi TT, but they share the sqame units so long as the connector is the same square shape.

MAGAZINE means either there is no magazine in the player, or it is going through the discs one by one to check them.

How long have you waited for?

Good point. The mag checks all discs before it will play anything.

SOLVED

The only thing I didn't do that had been suggested was to give the CD changer unit a good blow out. I didn't have anything to do that with so was considering going to maplins to get a can of compressed air when I had a 'make do' brain wave. In Birmingham at the moment it is very windy, the wind was howling through a gap at the side of my garage door so I held the unit in the gap where the wind was howling through and held it at different angles for about a minute hoping it may be the answer. I then reconnected the unit, mounted it on the bracket and turned the cd player on and sure enough it works

Not sure if the 'make do' blower was what solved it or just a coincidence but I couldn't give a damn either way, my problems solved

Thanks for all the advice from you guys which surely helped.

I tried the can of fresh air from Maplins last week - it sort of worked and could play track 1 of CD1. But that was all. Then it stopped again :swear:

Anyone got any ideas why it can only see the 1st CD, and wont even play that??

Maybe your changer is just knackered and you need to buy mine, lol!

On a more serious note (not that you can listen to any if your changer is playing up  ), are you playing proper pressed CDs, or CD-r/CD-rws? I have a feeling the changers are not that keen on all types of CD-r media.

Ive tried normal pressed CDs, including shorter ones that arent extended play (e.g. 90 mins)

I've had the 'SURFACE' issue for around a year (you get used to listening to the **** on the radio after a while), but this thread seems to have helped. Cleaned the grabbers, given it all a good blow (and vacuum) and it seems to be working for now. Thanks.

Cleaning the grabbers won't help with the surface error. That is a lens issue. Cleaning the grabbers only helps for it failing when grabbing discs.

Also, it should be noted, the rubber grabbers should never be cleaned with any solvent or alcohol. Only specific rubber cleaning solution or a silicon based cleaner should be used on rubber, or it'll dry out and crack.
