Urgent Help Please Guys

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

The car won't start. Had it running earlier, took it out and filled it up in fact. Washed it earlier, its been parked up on the drive for a few hours since. Clearly it unlocks fine, on the first key turn, the display lights up as usual, glow plug light goes out, second key turn and nothing. It doesn't even turn over.

Upon the initial key turn, you can't hear the usual sound from the engine bay.

I'm utterly stumped. What the hell is wrong? Its been running fine, so I'm surprised it suddenly won't start.

Anything I can check?

Please post if you can help, I need to get on the road soon.

I bet you it's this...

What you can do is, jump and down like a orangutan while you turn it for the 2nd click... if it starts then thats your problem!

I did the above for a month before I got round to fixing it.

Can you hear the relay pulling in? check the lead to the starter motor as this sometimes gets corroded. Check earth leads.

Where are they please? I'll go check in a minute. Its just odd as it ran fine earlier. Thanks.

And I can hear a quiet click upon the initial key turn, but not the usual liquid squelchy sound, if that makes sense.

Look at the link on crocket's post for the starter motor connection.

Jump in your seat as you turn the key...

Thanks for the replies guys.

Crocket, it was indeed that very wire in your link. The AA chap (I folded and called them, as the site went down right at the wrong time unfortunately so I never saw your link until now) said the retaining tab part of the connecter has broken, so it disconnected itself, hence the no start.

Its now tie-wrapped together and the car starts and runs fine. Phew.

Hopefully that'll keep it right for the forseeable. If anyone knows how much it'd be to replace the connector I'd be interested to know. No doubt tie-wraps will be cheaper and do the job anyway!

Thanks again guys.
