Test Drive - Left A Little Underwhelmed

Featured Replies

I agree about the noise (wind or not)..The sound is a tad irritating (in tone/pitch) rather than truely

just noisy.

Another thing I dislike is the large central jumbo box that is in the wrong position and not truly

adjustable. If you have to use the centre rear seat it feels like riding a horse with legs

straddling the box. It doesn't even provide much useable space. Simple folding armrest and simpler storage

would suffice. They seemed to have got confused on what it's purpose would be. Cooling feature could

be incorporated in glove box, sockets, rear heating vents, cup holder (too small) placed elsewhere.

The rear seat fully fold back arrangement(strap hooks to hold seat in vertical) are a cheap and

less than elegant solution and needs reworking. Other cars the seat back fold flat...why not these???

Rework boot spare space to enable a full size spare to be fitted or alternatively a slightly

narror tyre fitted in place of 90% of a tyre as current (195 v 225) to free up more boot space.

Missed opportunity when they changed the rear exhaust from 2 to 1 pipe.

An finally crappy boot light..

Will get dealer to look at it and come up with solution. Not sure about messing about with craft knife/delicate fit

as not DIY confident.. Can see a "Oh dear, what have you been trying to do here?" moment if I muck it up (LOL!!!)

Surely a brighter replacement bulb would surfice...probably able to do without 2nd light.

Nah, some people fitted it without having to enlarge the opening. It is honestly just that the plastic there is not perfectly cut. I only needed to trim about 1 or 2mm of the rough trim to get the light to fit. The difference is like night and day (:giggle: ) once done believe me!

I don't have the Skoda sat nav. Why pay for that as OE when you can hard wire in a superior Tom Tom for a fraction of the price?

Well, as you asked the question - functionality is great - it has many things that a Tom Tom does not offer (dvd/MP3 player, split screen with many options etc) and, particulalry, integration - with the maxidot, and the majority of other vehicle electronic functions. I came from several Tom Toms, for many years, I hated the Columbus at first through unfamiliarity, I love it now after some mon ths of ownership, and wouldn't be without it. There are a couple of drawbacks - no satnav speed display, no speed cams (as standard, at any rate) and the heavy price. But the latter can get lost somewhat in a 'deal negotiation' - it was in mine. The other functionalities I have supplied by a Road Angel, which knocks spots of other solutions, IMO. There you go - by definition, my own opinions..

I do agree with another comment about the cupholders: i think those the Yeti obviously reflect the fact that real Yeti's do not drink from cups ever.

I fitted one, worth every penny! Very easy to fit, as 900000 says, only needs a couple of mils or so taken off around the vinyl hole, a small file would even do it if you don't want to use a knife. The actual edges are hidden by the the lamp when fitted, so don't really show. Took me a couple of minutes, and I'm no DIY expert!

Look on the Maxidot - you can set the mirrors to adjust individually

Thanks for the tip Merlinman, I'll have a look. I must confess that's another thing; I've not got my head round all the options maxidot provides because the handbook guidance is so vague. I'm sure there are other preferences I can adjust if I only realised!

easiest way is to have a play & work out what they do. Any excuse to sit in/drive the SM.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I thought I would not get on with this auto setting of the left mirror but in truth it is spot on. Just remember to NOT set the left mirror first! You ONLY set the right mirror and based on the setting you set this too the left mirror will be adjusted automatically to suit.

But I have the electric driver's seat so this stores the mirror positions with the seat memory settings so I never fiddle with the mirrors between drivers! I only move it from L (to enable the left mirror to dip when you select reverse) to heated (and that I don't like as you forget to switch it off, but then this button comes from a Golf so all new VAG cars has this stupid feature alas).

Fair enough, you pays your money and you makes your choice. But the Bolero plays MP3 and CD (What do you want DVD for? Not a criticism, just a Q from a technological dunderhead). I want sat nav to guide me from a to b (and tell me how long it will be before I get there, and warn me of speed cameras and traffic jams) ... no need for other toys. TT does the job!

Yeah; trouble is my wife gives me grief for sitting in the car and "playing with my toys". :'(

Depends on whether you are in the north or south of Herefordshire, but I would recommend a call to Faintree in Bridgnorth. They are a family based firm who have a good reputation. If you fancy a trek then the dealer in Swansea seems to be good.

From personal experience I would not recommend either of the Furrows places! Bamfords in Gloucester don't seem very popular, nor the place in the Forest.

Have you looked in the dealers section on here? Might be worth while.

I'm in the middle - Bridgnorth not too far away - I'll give them a call, thanks. The place in the Forest weren't familiar with the 1.4 introduced last July ... "1.4 Sir? No such thing."

Don't you just love it when a dealer doesn't know about the product they are trying to sell? *slow, sarcastic clap of hands* emoticon-0114-dull.gif

TD,

the place down in the Forest doesn't seem to have a very good reputation!

Good luck and keep us posted.

Over the years having dealt with many dealers and have generally found them pretty poor in selling skills.....

Such as....

Enter the showroom and look around cars...everyone busy with other things...mainly back office paperwork...no time to sell you a car.

Does this car have this feature?....Let me look in brochure he says!!!

What type of automatic is fitted....What do you mean? ..It's an automatic sir!!

To wife (who was the purchaser)..I suppose you are here to make sure he buys the right colour.

Most must be in a comfort zone that doesn't require much effort.. and they are all called....(SOMETHING) EXECUTIVE.

The one's that were better than the norm was HONDA and BMW.

Not a representative sample I admit.

VAG Dealers expect you to have done your homework, tell them exactly what you require, give them the money and say goodbye :)

Interesting that, I went into a BMW showroom and they just ignored me.... propbably because of my boots.

I quite like the Mini "layback" style, you go in, have a look, then leave, come to think of it probably they have got enough sales and don't need any more, they declined to give me a price-list, "they are still being printed, the price for the car would have VAT adjusted to it" - that was in November!!

My wife went to look at a 1 series at the dealers at Silverlink. We went as a family and despite saying straight away that she was the one interested in the car the salesman blanked her and only spoke to me. There were 4 separate situations, initial meeting, handing over of brochure, any questions, show around the car, and at every one she was ignored and I was the person spoken to despite each time stating that the car was for her. I was in kinks laughing as I could see her getting angrier and angrier :@ . Needless to say she didn't get one. Far too many dealers are dreadful at their jobs.

A couple of years ago I visited 5 BMW dealers with a view to buying. Every dealer ignored me and it was obviously too much trouble to be of any service at all. I bought a Mercedes and was met with good (but by no means perfect) service, and have not regretted it for a minute. Do some of these arrogant dealers not know what is good for them as I will speak to several others of my experience and on and on it goes and the dealers' reputations with it. Serve them right - but they don't carer a jot.

I must admit the garage my wife bought her last two cars from - Skoda - has been very good.

When the Mini Countryman was launched, I popped along the next weekend to take a look at the local dealer.

All trace of any salesman disappeared and I had the forecourt to myself for around 20 minutes before I thought I ought to go and do something more interesting instead. I'm 100% sure they'd spotted me on their CCTV. B)

I bet that things would be different now if they had a chance to get their hands on my Yeti. I'm sure they'd love something that actually sells!

I know that people comment that they rarely see Yetis on the road. I've only ever seen one Countryman on the road and that was that same dealers demonstrator!

Getting back to the original post, it's worth searching out one of the better Skoda dealers - despite what the press and particularly Autocar say, there are some duff ones about as well as good ones. The good ones are still very good though.

My Wife (accompanied by Daughter) went to look at a new car at the w/e. Salesman only spoke to my Daughter, in spite of being told it was for my Wife. Then proceeded to patronise her...

They gave a her a written quote for the car, they UNDERVALUED her existing car by about £1,000, and then added another £1,000 of 'add-ons' - why would she want alloy wheel insurance at about £300 when she has been driving for 40 odd years without damaging a wheel (they only had to look at her present car to see) - paint protection at about £500, (buy it on ebay for about £20)and she keeps her car immaculate.. and then GAP insurance at some inflated cost , when she was paying cash!!

She did book a test drive, but rang to cancel and I had the 'Brand Manager' on the phone yesterday to ask why, I told him to look at the quotation, and to try and treat Women like customers instead of dummies... She's keeping the car she has...

While I agree that windnoise is noticeable at speed, other noises are less so - making the wind-bit more noticeable than on other cars where roadnoise usually are predominant.

Wingmirror control is the old one from the Golf MKIV era - mine on my second gen Toledo broke, so I am a bit careful with this one.

Did I mention that road- and enginenoise is very well sorted on the Yeti - cause it is.

Cannot comment on the nav, got the low rent "Blues" stereo myself.

I came to the Yeti from a Fiat 500 - but preceding that I have owned three Golf MKVs and two Toledo MKIIs (and an Aygo)
