Back In A Skoda...

Was there no cable in the car when you collected it?! The brochure says "MDI + Cable", so the dealer should provide one free of charge....

A few people have had problems with this but a quick call to Skoda customer services usually solves it.

Of course there a two different cable available (1 for ipod and the other is USB) so you are only entitled to one of them and would have to pay for the other if you wanted both.

thanks for that. the dealer has ordered it, I just assumed I would be paying for it!

I was also offered the option of a 3.5mm jack aswell, but USB and a Solid state drive is the way forward.

Very nice Dave. Glad you're enjoying it

You and white wheels though - quality! Can't wait to see those after a few weeks of Cumbrian driving ;)

And when are the Eibachs going on??

Looking forward to seeing your new vRS at the WSM meet

on the steering wheel, I also have a button with a pic of a phone next to it too.... do I have the bluetooh phone option too? (goes to try and find out!)

also... done my first driving lesson in it... wow... so easy. the DSG works perfectly for learners. AND they can't kill my clutch or gearbox , like in a manual!...

my magnetic door panels.

Man I am jealous.....don't even have a build date on our estate yet!

neither do I with my estate , when was yours ordered?

well, I'm back in the skoda fold as of tomorow, here's a picture of my new baby....

image0283.jpg

it was pre-registered by the garage, not used as a demonstrator (only 14 miles on the clock) ,extras: has white wheels, Media input (for ipod ect) steering wheel controls for media system and full size spare wheel.

MINT!

Hopefully I'm picking it up tomorow :)

Didn't know you were still running the tuition Dave.

Bit surprised at the purchase then, as doesn't the DSG box make it a bit too easy for them? I know I certainly wouldn't have wanted to learn in an auto. Clutch control must be one of the most difficult things to master, and then obviously if they do pass in a DSG they can only drive autos from then on?

Thats right Steve, auto only when they pass.... its alot easier, and less stressfull to teach though lol.. I only do it a day or so a week, as I work full time for NWAS, just enough to pay for the car ;) ... BUT remember ... its the way forward (I'm looking to the future) tiptronic boxes are getting more common, all electric cars and hybrids are auto's, the demand will increase. plus there are about 30 instructors vying for business round here, and only one auto car (besides me) ......

Makes sense to do the auto thing, the young ones prefer it I think and less stress especially for the girlsemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Thats the only thing that puts me off the vRS at the moment the DSG box, but as you say Sharkrider auto's will prob be the way forward in a few years time, I think I would consider one with a DSG box if they offered a diesel unit in the car as well.

The things people (the press ect) complain about with the DSG can be fixed, simply by using it properly.. I'll give examples...

"it changes up in the middle of a corner..." er... put it in sport, it wont then, if you are going gently in drive, changing up in a corner isnt a problem!

"in tiptronic, as it aproches the red line and you change up, the computer does it too and you end up changing up 2 gears..!" er.... read how it works, let the computer change it up on max acceleration... it can do it better than you can, use the paddles when not on max throttle yourself...

I like the gearbox, I do agree that it takes some of the "involvement" out of it, but I can live with that... 90% of the time, I'm not hoofing around like a lunartic! lol..

see if you can get one for a day, and have a play in all the different modes, you may change your mind

I'll borrow yours next time I see you Dave, see if I can agree with you on all the points raised ;)

Fair enough on the tuition, I hear what you're saying.

Awesome car to learn it though. Got to feel sorry for them though when they pass the test and go to get their first car. Anything other than a Fabia or above is going to seem sluggish as hell I imagine

weirdly enought 90% wont put their foot down, it scares them too much :giggle: they tend to treat full throttle like stepping on a land mine... just too much hell will be let loose ! lol...

Would be interesting to see the MPG return...

*Que another MPG debate*

*Que another MPG debate*

No point mate, we all know its c*** compared to the Mk1 TDI :p

on lessons (alot of stop start manouvers ect) its giving 35mpg (its not run in 400 miles so far) best run I've got is 47mpg, stuck in traffic on a-roads circa 50 mpg, reading the road ahead so as not use the brake... fast motorway is about 35mpg too...

this is so far, I expected as much.

ok, I have owned alot of fast cars over the years, uno turbo, saab 900 turbo, fiat croma turbo, lancia thema turbo, mark1 vRS, grande punto spoting, I could go on...

but I have to say, this is one of the fastest cars I have ever owned (second only to the lancia [220bhp]) its overtaking ability is immense! and I'm only on 450 miles.... if it gets better as it runs in, I may even forgo the remap! :giggle:

Remap - Could be looking at about 220BHP from a 1.4TSI just plain crazy but lots of fun.

Cheers Dave! Not surprised on the learner reaction to WoT TBH - 180bhp on tap is probably step too far with the L plates still attached

That's pretty good going. Suppose up where you are, if you're able to keep flowing on a nice A-road that's where it's going to be at it's most efficient. Remember doing runs like those down in the Oxfordshire countryside in the Mk1 getting 60mpg while not dawdling...

Overtaking must be quite handy for sure, coupled with the DSG! But you just know you'll be curious to feel how it performs with a slight tweak in the ECU department :p

the DSG makes a huges difference, makes it so much quicker, went to a fiat scotland meet on sunday (booked it when I still had the fiat! lol..) and a guy there has a guiletta with the 200+bhp 1.7 turbo in it (cloverleaf) and the vRS was a touch quicker ;) seems to be loosesning up a bit, 890 miles now... and I've mastered the art of getting the right gear befor an overtake to prevent it kicking down (I hate the delay) just seems strange to get 2ng gear and 6000 revs at 50+ mph! lol....

you have to change your way of thinking from "hhmmm... I'll use third as only 1k of revs left in 2nd, so pointless" to "no delay in gearchange, but a second to kickdown unexpectadly, so that last 1k of revs is the right thing to do ..! ;)

Man you'll be using those dual controls quite a bit when teaching a youngster I bet!! :-) Gotta watch out for those curbed alloys too! V nice motor, extremely jealous as having to wait months for ours!

I have to be honest, I dont really think having driven one that it warrants a remap. Is well rapid for a small car. Once run in i'm confident it will break 60 in less than 7 seconds, 139/140mph top speed thats plenty quick enough.

Its a good handling car but I think without sufficient work to the suspension and perhaps brakes another 40 -45hp may be a bit much for it. I'd be inclined to just leave be, particularly given that you teach folks to drive in it, learning in a 180ps car is an amazing thing in itself. I learnt in a 60 odd hp 1.5 TD Vauxhall Nova! What a pig that was!
