I tired to remove old battery this morning but it won't come out?

Is there a locking fixing/plate somewhere?

Can anyone point me out where is it located and how to get to it?

the car desperately need a new battery fitted for a long trip tomorrow!

If the arrangement is the same as a 2002 1.9 diesel estate then there is a clamp at the bottom of the battery box which locates on the lop at the bottom of the battery. It is tightened and released via a hexagon headed set screw on the outside of the battery box's front edge.

Yeah, if you look down the front of the battery box you will see a hex bolt & fixing plate that needs releasing. However, you will need an socket set with an 12" extension to get to the bolt.
