Octavia Scout Gearbox

Recommended Posts

I've had my new 2011 CR TDI Octavia Scout for 1 week. The gear change from 2nd to 3rd is so 'clunky' I'm thinking of booking it in to the garage to get checked. Does this sound normal?

Mines as smooth as silk from 2nd to 3rd (2008, PD diesel, pre-facelift, 25,000 miles).

1st to 2nd can be described as a little "notchy" when cold but not to a point I'm concerned.

Any issues from 2nd to 3rd on a week old car is not right. Back to the supplying dealer!

Have just emailed the dealer to get a mechanic to take it out for a drive re the gear change. Currently sitting waiting for the RAC...the coolant header tank has emptied and the warning light come on...this is not a good start. Anyone any ideas re the legal position for rejecting a car?

Citizens advice will tell you about rejecting a car, it needs to be done properly, worst thing I believe you can do is carry on driving it. Your contract is with the dealer, not with Skoda so no point shouting at Skoda

As for the header tank if it has actually emptieed you have a problem. First thing if nothings obvious I guess is thety will suggest you top it up & see what happens. The level sensor is super sensative & there are loads of threads from people who have had a level drop on cold mornings when starting the car. If yours has come on whilst driving then potentially I can see a problem but as with most things it needs someone to look at the car, interweb diagnosis is fraught with danger & doom & gloom is all to easy to spread. It may just be it wasnt topped up in the first place

Weve done 22k faultless miles in our Scout since May, Gearbox is fine as well, probably one of the best cars we have owned, its not as much fun as the quicker cars but as the everyday drive / family workhorse its excellent

My 58 plate octy vrs is booked into the dealer next week for 3 days for them to repair my gearbox as the 1st to 2nd change when cold crunches & is notchy when warm,it has started to be notchy 2nd to 3rd recently to. There is a knocking noise & vibration which goes when you press the clutch pedal down too!

The RAC provide free legal advice. As you've got breakdown cover (I assume provided by Skoda), why not try giving them a call? You'll get through to a call centre person, who'll take some details down and get a solicitor to call you back. :)

Many thanks. I'll have a read.

The RAC mechanic topped up the coolant as expected and left the car to warm up. Nothing obviously wrong. He thinks it might have just been 'finding its level.' Took it out for a blast along the motorway and all seems fine again...fingers crossed.

My Skoda dealer has offered to take the car out for a drive to check the gear change. He also took delivery of a new Scout for himself so should be able to give a good comparison.

Thanks for all the comments. This is a great site

Sounds like a little niggle on the coolant & the dealer is getting on with looking at the gearbox, just enjoy the car
