Not the full "180"

Having recently purchased a brand new Octavia Vrs (which i may add is superb), we decided to check it out on a rolling road. The final figure was 165, with the technician saying the boost is cutting back. Has anyone else experienced this, or can give me some ideas (known manufacturing fault, program Fault?). Thanks in advance....Welsh Vrs.

What rolling road did you go on, and what was the cooling like for your engine and intercooler??

Biggest problem for turbo motors on rolling roads is inadequate cooling and overly-long power runs, making everything get too hot, and the ecu pulling back to protect it all from going bang...

Also, the fuel you use will have an effect... the 1.8t needs 97/98ron unleaded, aka super plus... running on 95ron will reduce the performance also, but I think the problem will have been more to do with the cooling.

Take the car to a vag specialist, for example, Stealth, AMD, Jabba etc and see what it kicks out then ;)

Welcome to the forum. Thats good advice there from Rog. When mine was RR'd standard it was running between 180-190. How does the car drive everyday? and what did the curve printout from the RR look like?. It should be fairly smooth and start tailing off towards the end with no big spikes.

Test performed at Interpro, Bristol. Cooling was aided by large fans at front, petrol was normal unleaded. The curve was smooth all the way up to the tail off, but the tech said it should have been steeper when the boost kicks hard, as if its holding back. Apart from this result we thought the car was awesome.

Interpro... not a good place!! Seen some nice pics of turbo's GLOWING during a "power run" there - think it was Bill (from Badger5) with his IHI'd Ibiza said his turbo was TRANSLUCENT at the end of the run!! Far too long a run with inadequate cooling!!!

It is hard to find a rolling road that is good with the VAG cars. The majority of rolliong roads are still the "old school" type which are great for NA cars, but useless for trubo's!! Another LCR owner locally had his car RR'd at a local outlet, and apart from the run lasting over 5 minutes, he failed to get anywhere near stock power, but was massively over stock torque!! Additionally, I've been on another RR where I didn't even reach the stock torque figure, and I think everyone on the day left disapointed.

Keep an eye out for an organised RR day here on the forums, that way you'll know you're going to a vag specialist, and will be able to compare your figures to others on the day to see whether you do actually have a problem...

...oh, and switch over to super unleaded - your car needs it (it says so in the handbook ;))

Thanks for all the advice, nice to know there is some reassuring advice out there. car is going back to skoda for diagnostics but doubt they will do much.

PS. seen your meet CupraR-Rog depending on shifts hope to catch it at some point.

No probs mate - be good to see you there ;)

PM me your moby no if you want me to text you a reminder... surprising how many people rely on that text to remind them where & when the meets are!!
