I've been unfaithful

Interesting comparison

I had one many years ago so probably not the best person to judge but I found running costs were horrendous, when anything broke which it did all too often it was always a sizeable bill & the mpg was plain scary.

The other downside I found with the scoob was the fact it would grip & grip & then all let go before all gripping again, The car could be driven very quickly but I was always scared of finding the limit so it was probably even quicker.

I dont regret owning it but I vowed never again, my toy of choice is now a tuned Nissan 350 Zed, still huge garage bills but at least the mpg is a bit better

i had a few runs on 'private roads' with my stage 2+ vRS against my mates stage 2 custom mapped Impreza WR1 (335+hp) flat out he had the legs, but not by much. 4th grear at 30mph i literally pulled about 5 car s lengths before a gear change.

Loved the grip, wasnt taken by how harsh it was to drive slowly, interior was diabolical, he gets sub 20mpg at best, £400 tax band, realkly really really loud.

it put me off having a suburu big style. had the same experience with an EVO X FQ300. unless you are flat out or above 3.5k and in the boost, they have nothing at all.

For comparison my mates ibiza cupra stage 2+ well and truly annihilated him in every in gear increment and run apart from an off the mark sprint. At the pod the WR1 managed a 13.05@ 101mph sec 1/4 mile and had a car length on the cupra straight off due to his start. yet the cupra managed a 12.8 1/4 mile @ 115mph.

Comical as his tax is $£200, he gets 30-40mpg, and its a comfortable daily runner.

im not taken by the jap performance tuning methods. yes they are quick when flat out, but imo the turbos are poorly chosen and to much based on being ragged everywhere.

Give me a german turbo powered car any day.

The only thing I'd say is that they can tweak and modify their motors as well :)

Not entirely fair to compare modified VAG against standard Jap, although I appreciate they're more expensive out of the box, so they're an easy target ;) And for less outlay you can have a suitably swift VAG-based motor
