Would you swap your VRS for an S3?

Featured Replies

no rather keep the vrs and modify it a little, plus fuel economy and insurance will differ

I sold my Fabia for an Evo 6, the running costs are more but I don't do the mileage to warrant a oil burner.

1+ hence why I bought a CTR.

I would say yes cliff. If you don't get on with it then sell it for more :)

My mates got an apy 210bhp s3 engined lupo

Would you have that?

Yes, 4WD, xenons and leather = win :)

Although I would have the same style/year 1.9TDI 130 A3 Quattro instead, mate has one, diesel economy, 4wd grip and tuneability!

This is the approach I'd go for, S3 would cost me too much to run with the current petrol prices. When I had mine I got around 35mpg if I was careful, 30mpg most of the time post remap.

In terms of the actual car the vRS doesn't come close to the S3 anyway you want to measure it outside of cost of ownership unless you've seriously tweaked the power output of the vRS to be way beyond the 240bhp that a remapped S3 would be putting out (seems daft to be comparing standard S3 against tuned vRS when a standard remap for the S3 is at most £500).

I had a look at swapping the TDI out of my vRS into a Mk1 TT over Christmas. They are pretty much the same car as a S3 but usually have a higher spec, and good availability for not much. Ally reckoned that the TDI would drop more or less straight in. With a bit more work on my TDI I could be pushing out anywhere from 240 to 260 BHP so more than matching what the 1.8T with a remap would be putting out but still achieving well over 45mpg.

What put me off was the weight of a TT, its at least 200kg heavier than my vRS, and I'd end up with a 1.8T in the vRS, not my ideal track car (I've always wanted to build a 1.8T Elise) or having to obtain another TDI lump to go into the vRS to sell it.

TDI :)

That TT spent a while parked outside my flat way back when.

Ok so it was actually parked outside Lloyd Allard's flat as it was below mine but it still counts

I would defo mk 2 s3 is my next car :)
