sidelight replacement

Featured Replies

Hi son bought a set of bulbs phillips nightbreakers with which he had the blue sidelights, now they were the wrong one's for his motor but perfect for my fabia 1.4tdi, I have fitted the nightbreakers but taken half the skin off my knuckles but tried removing the poor sidelights but seem to be welded in to place,I have had a look at the manual but does'nt help is it a big yank or a twist to removeemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Sorry I can't help as I've not changed them myself but if it's like the Fabia Mark 1 I used to use a screwdriver and try to turn it and and then insert it into the groove and push it out with the screwdriver.

Not done one but I'd put money on it being a straight pull rather than a twist!

Fabia 1's sidelights just pull out straight, if they are 501's i'd bet they pull out, just be gentle with the wires.

They are a nightmare to remove. I used a battery charger clamp to grab them and give a good pull, be very careful with the wires though. Its a ridiculous design though.

thanx so good yank shouls do then!!:wonder:

Long nose pliers on the plastic holder does the trick, failing that, a CAREFUL pull on the wires in a straight direction

Hi.

For the second time, the local Dundee Skoda staff replaced the driver side front sidelight (free of charge) - aren't Skoda dealers wonderfull!. They loosened the 3 bolts holding the fuel filter, then removed the sidelight, and put a new bulb in the holder.

I asked them not to fit the bulb holder back into position. When I got home I fitted a small cable tie round the bulb holder. Hopefully this will help me remove the bulb the next time.

If there is a next time, I might fit an LED sidelight bulb.

This design is ridiculous! The plastic cylindrical surround foir the sidelight bis about 3 cms longer than it needs to be and shortening it would solve the problem. However, removing the whole headlight seems like a complex and time-consuming job. If Skoda can't design these simple things properly, then perhpas they should fit long-life LED bulbs in place of filament bulbs.
