waterproof dump valve?

Featured Replies

I went to collect my new Compbreak diverter valve from the post office depot today and was sheepishly handed an item in a royal mail plastic bag, dripping with water.

Looks like postman **** had dropped it in the biggest puddle he/she could find

Anyway, I unpacked it took the top off and was greeted with this!

I took the piston out and same story there... more water.

Most of the grease had oozed out of the sides of piston with the water.

I dried it out as best I could and put it back together but it doesn’t seem to be completely sealing... when I blow through the side port I can hear a slight air leak.

I suspect that this is due to the grease that was washed away/lost when I mopped up the water.

Does anyone have any experience of the compbreak DV with regard to the leak and re-greasing it?

P.S. I bought it CompBreak’s ebay shop DV and have already e-mailed them to see what they say about it all.

you will need to re-grease it. You can do a leak test by pushing the valve up from the bottom and then sealing the top. The piston should stay at the top.

If you don't get any joy from compbrake, get a service kit for the forge DV. It comes with grease and seals.

Not sure what type of grease is supposed to be in there. Mine has white grease in it.

Personally I would have refused the package (maybe accepted as damaged) and made a claim against Royal Mail for a replacement, why go to all this effort to fix something that is brand new and shouldnt need doing. Unfortunately the seller will probably not be able to doing anything as you accepted it in that condition. I say all this because I work as a lorry driver and have had to deal with many many situations just like this, after all every logistics company has insurance to cover these problems. Also depending on what service was used or insurance taken out you will get the full amount paid including postage.

On a side note if you can get a service kit as rk suggested then go for that.

It was sent by recorded delivery and was supplied with a claim form and number when I collected... so in effect, it was accepted as damaged.

At best, royal mail would give me £41 in 1st class stamps... no good to me

I’m hoping that the supplier will agree to send out some grease or maybe even a full service kit. If not I can either grease it myself or go for a refund via the distance selling regulations.

I've got some Castrol high temp red grease which should do the trick and be kind to the rubber seals.

I'm guessing it just needs to be applied around the rubber seals and the cylinder bore

cheers fellas

Royal mail should pay up.

I sold a laptop screen which ended as footbal I reckon, the buyer sent it back and it was nearly bent in half.

Got the full £40 quid back from RM

I'd just get on with life and re-grease the DV and fit it. Don't waste any more time on thinking about "postman ****"!

Just clean all the grease and water out with some paper towel, and regrease with high temperature grease. Job done. Here's a picture of when I serviced my DV. I've since fitted a yellow spring to fix a high-end boost fluctuation, and fitted the angled spigot top to allow the engine cover to be fitted.

The water won't have damaged anything, apart from the grease distribution/quality.
