His car is fairly new... I wouldnt say its a common problem as mine is older and hasn't done it and i dont think i've heard other cases of the badge doing this

My vRS is 8 weeks old and has done 3500 miles. I removed the badge because the peeling paint made it look tacky. When I had removed the badge, I soon realised that it too is just a piece of 'al tacky plastic tat  I reckon the car looks far better with a smooth ass badgeless rear end  Despite this, I still maintain that the car is absolutely brilliant :)

Soulman,

The first picture is the real vRS badge for the fabia. It is meant to fit under the model name. The picture below is an after-fitted badge, that belongs to the octavia vRS.

The first one is not only for the 2005 models, it was also there when the first vRS came out.

Acutally, the first badge is the second badge. The second badge is the first badge :D

The longer badge was the one fitted to the early Fabia vRSs - they simply took the badge from the Octavia. The shorter badge is the one used on 04 onwards cars.

So, if the Octavia and early Fabia owners (of which I am one) are to be believed, the longer badge is the REAL badge :)

I don't ever remember seeing that badge on the first vRS models. The vRS came out after the 2.0 petrol model dint it? I don't remember seeing the long badge fitted onto any vRS models then.

I think the original badge looks better. Still looks better debadged though.

It was actually one time where my dealer's response when asked of 'They all come like that sir...' was actually the case. (At the time in 2003).

Autocar's very early long term test car had the longer badge...

Mine's got the longer badge (which I think also looks better), and it's a December 2003 (on a 53 plate) model. The shorter badge came out the following March on an 04 plate when Skoda could be bothered to make an individual badge for the Fabia.
